Staring out across the barren land, the Shinigami King couldn't help but feel sad. He slowly shook his head, knowing that being a Shinigami, he shouldn't feel so sentimental. Unfortunately, that was not an easy task. The Shinigami King, who had long forgotten his name or if he even did have one, couldn't hide the truth from himself. He could feel something was off, something wasn't right. There was only one explanation. It's going to happen soon. After all these years, it is now time.

Breaking the chains for the first time in thousands of years, the Shinigami King slowly got out of his cave filled with chains hanging from the top. No other Shinigami was near at this time. He slowly floated and made his way to the portal, which lead to the human realm. From the distance, he could see the silhouettes of some other Shinigami, but paid no attention to them. They were far away and weren't facing him.

Doing something that he never thought he'd do, the Shinigami King dropped his eyes into the portal, hoping for the best of luck. His view was no longer tinted red, and for the first time, he saw how grey the Shinigami realm truly was. He had heard of a Shinigami doing this before. In fact, that was only some years ago. A Shinigami had dropped his eyes into the portal and it had reached a human. That was all he knew of that event.

He carefully observed the portal. It was a habit for him to check it approximately every ten thousand years. His conclusion was no doubt correct. The portal was getting smaller. This was very noticeable, even to a regular Shinigami who never pays attention to it. The portal had shrunk just a little a million years ago, but since the last time he checked, there was a big difference. Soon, the portal would be gone forever, and there would be no chance for Shinigami to ever have any contact with the human world, even with the spheres that are used to watch the humans. It was used to kill them to gain lifespan for a Shinigami. The king was immortal, so it was useless to him. There was only one way for him to die. No, die wouldn't be the proper word. There was only one way for him to exit out of existence. Unfortunately, the portal powers the spheres. Without them, Shinigami would be unable to kill humans, leading to their death, and the extinction of Shinigami. The Shinigami King was so certain this was going to happen due to the air change. The portal closing must of had some effect on the air, as he could feel something different about it.

The Shinigami King couldn't let that happen. He just couldn't. One idea he had was to bring all the Shinigami to the human realm and live there, but how could he convince them to go? With the large Shinigami population, could they all hear the news? What could they do on Earth? Would they cause the extinction of humans somehow?

The portal closing was an event that The Shinigami King knew couldn't be stopped, and that he couldn't help. He had limited knowledge of Earth and humans. All he could do was float there, hoping with all his skulls that the eyes he had just dropped would find its way to a human. One that is worthy enough to save every single Shinigami.
