Chapter 1
Knock! Knock! Knock! Knock! Knock! Knock!
I was woken up by a loud, rapid, and continuous knocking. I grab my phone off the nightstand and look at the time. It is 6:30, December 20, 2015. I hop out of bed and run to the door, which is still being beaten from the other side. I grab the handle and swiftly open the door.
Anna stood there with pursed lips and a look of determination in her eyes, her hand still did the knocking motion a few more times, but she suddenly froze when the door opened. But in the next second she had me engulfed in one of her bear hugs.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELSA!" she shouted, blowing out my eardrums. I still couldn't help but laugh at my sister. "Thank you, Anna." I said hugging her back. She pulled away and ran into my walk in closet. I chuckled and shook my head, following her in. Seriously, this girl is 16 but her inner child is definitely alive.
"Sooo, any special outfit picked out for your special day?" she asked going through my shirts that hung on their hangers. "It's just my birthday, Anna. It's not like I'm going to a ball. Besides it's the last day of school before Christmas break, which means it's all exams today. I might just bum it." I said casually, shrugging my shoulders.
"No way, Els! It's year eighteenth birthday! The big one-eight!" She turned and looked me up and down. "Why couldn't you have a summer birthday? I could put you in a pretty dress. Ugh, you frustrate me!" She said dramatically, spinning around and looking around my closet.
"Yeah. It's my fault I have a winter birthday, right?" I asked sarcastically.
"Absolutely" she replied as serious as possible, trying not to smile.
I was about to say that the cold never bothered me anyway, but I heard my mom calling Anna and me. We raced downstairs while pushing, shoving, and giggling. We ran into the kitchen together to see mom cooking pancakes, and dad sitting at the table reading the paper to her. This was something they liked to do. One would cook breakfast, while the other read the paper aloud. It was cute, and showed that parents have love for each other.
"Elsa! Happy birthday dear! And good morning to you, Anna!" Mom said putting food onto four plates. "So how old are you this year? Three? No, no... Four?" My dad asked, laughing at himself, while we laughed at him. My mom grabbed two plates and set them on the table for me and Anna. "Come on! Sit! Sit! Then there's a couple presents for you!" Mom said with a wide grin.
She grabbed her and dad's plate and came to sit. Anna had already finished half her eggs and all her bacon by the time mom sat, and I was devouring the chocolate chip pancakes. We both had cheeks full of food and looked like chipmunks. We were giggling, until we hear a camera click and our eyes went wide and to our mom. "You'll laugh at one day" mom said laughing, waving the camera around.
When we finished eating and had our plates in the dishwasher, mom came into the kitchen with two boxes wrapped in white and blue snowflake paper. One was about the the size of two shoes stacked on top of each other, and the other was the size of a jewelry box. "Big one first" mom said setting the gifts on the table in front of me then sitting back down. I stood and put the smaller box to the side. Anna's eyes showed excited, maybe more than mine did.
I rip the paper off to see a large plain white box. I take the lid off and see clothes inside. I smile at my parents and they smile back. I pull out a black leather jacket; the one I showed Anna last month, a fitted plain v neck top, and dark blue skinny jeans. At the bottom, there were white heels with the pointy toes. My favorite type of heels, and don't what they're called, ha.
