"Wait, let me go... Please..."
"You'd just come after her..."
BANG!!

"So, how much further?" Ellie asked.
"Not too far." Joel replied. They hiked back to Tommy's safe zone after an unsuccessful supply run.
"Whoo... Whoo... Whoo..." Ellie whistled dreamily.

"Shh, Ellie." The sound of clicking approached them. They hid by some rocks erecting from the ground. Joel pulled his gun out, preparing for the worst. Joel stood up and aimed at the Clicker. But it was no Clicker at all. "Todd?!" Joel gasped.
"Todd, what the hell are you doing out here!" Ellie said exasperatedly. "We could've shot you! Shit!" Todd, the young boy, no older than eight, was creating the clicking noise. Todd had had a rough life, losing his parents when he was five, raised by his older brother, Mark. It was just Mark and him, alone, trying to survive. After years of living off of rotten animals, they found Tommy's dam.

"Sorry, I was just playing." Todd's lousy excuse wouldn't get by Joel and Ellie.
"You're outside the perimeter." Joel informed. "You could've been eaten. Not if hunters hadn't gotten to you first." Joel sighed, "c'mon. Let's get you home."

When Joel, Ellie, and Todd reached the walls of the safe zone, Mark, Todd's brother, immediately grabbed Todd and bolted away, not staying an extra moment. "What did I tell you about crossing the perimeter?!" Mark asked angrily.
"I'm sorry, Mark." Todd apologized. Mark wasn't the most stable person. He was always very paranoid. But that was probably the only reason he and his brother survived.
Tommy came over to Joel, "that boy needs to be watched a lot better."
"Believe me, I know." Joel and Tommy's relationship had repaired since the first time Joel got to the safe zone. They were acting like brothers again. But for Ellie things hadn't really changed. She couldn't let go that there was no cure for mankind. Even though life had kept on going, things had gotten better, Ellie couldn't drop the guilt of not being a solution, a defense, for the human race.

"Swear to me. Swear to me that everything you said about the Fireflies is true."
"I swear."
"...okay..."
