It was nearing dusk; the villagers were all in their homes, leaving the streets empty for the Nanoki brothers to walk freely with their swords at their hips. The smell of a long day and smoke from the blacksmith still lingered in the air, making the eldest crinkle his nose in disgust while the younger observed the empty stands left behind. They had been summoned by the future prince himself a few days ago about the matter of a task, which the twins had to talk over. They were headed for the castle presently to speak about their offer.
"I still think it's all shit." The eldest, Rowen said. He closed his gray eyes and shook his head, the white strands of his hair swaying with his movements. "I'm not willing to work for some bratty prince with weight to his pocket!" He complained openly and ran a hand through his silver hair.
"Calm down, someone will hear you." Asvald elbowed his brother, looking around between the houses for anyone who might have overheard. He gazed up upon the large castle in front of them, somehow feeling awkward about speaking to the prince personally.
"Like I give a damn." Rowen eyed the guards as they walked between the rows leading into the castle. "We could take over this place, Asvald. Give us an hour!" He shouted this a little too loud, causing the guards to tense up. Rowan himself had only smirked from the reaction he caused, showing that he really hadn't given a care.
"Quiet." Asvald hissed, elbowing his brother roughly. "Mother loved this place, we must honor it." He seen the glint in his brother's eyes and returned the glare. "And it's future king." Asvald was used to the angry looks he and his brother received. They looked and spoke a lot alike, so it was often that they were mistaken for one another.
"I honor the village that she loved and I honor her memory, don't ask for anything else." He kept his eyes forward as they stepped into the castle, a pleased glimmer in his eyes when a door was opened for him. "Mother had no connection with royal blood, so I can dishonor them if I want."
"You have too much power, Rowen." They stopped in front of the throne room, waiting for the door to be opened. Asvald took in a breath and viewed his surroundings of white and a rich brown. "Your mind is still set, right?" He asked, feeling slightly unsure of becoming heroes for a change.
"Divided we fall, Asvald." He smiled at his living reflection. "Together we stand. If you're all in, then so am I." The doors were opened and they bowed slightly before entering. They stood side by side in front of the young prince, who sneered at them in return.
"If you're here that means you accepted my task." The little boy scoffed as he eyed them both. "Unfortunately, I can't give it to you if I can't tell the two of you apart!" He seemed to be getting upset quickly, but had the control to take a calming breath. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers, having two servants rush to his side. "Luckily for you both, I have a solution." The brothers looked at each other for a moment, now reconsidering their choices. "You two will be separated for exactly three months to adapt to your own style. You'll train separately here in the castle and are not to see each other until the time is up." He sighed and waved them away. The servants guided the brothers in opposite directions, not pausing to let them take one last glance at each other. "Do not let me down." The prince's parting words rung throughout the room.
//I will do a time skip for these months, as there's really nothing important taking place. When I speak of Asvald, he now looks like the man on the left in the picture. Rowen is the right.
