A boy, around 18, runs into his house with a grin on his face. "Dad!" He calls out, dropping his backpack on to the floor.
"Ash?" His dad replies from another part of the house. The boy seems to know where the voice comes from and walks over. He ends up in the kitchen. A man, who looked like the older version of the boy, stood there smiling with a women, drinking coffee. The women looked just as happy to be with him as he was with her.
"Dad, Mom, guess what?" Ash said, bouncing slightly. "Remember that girl I told you about? The one who lives next door?"
"Aileen, right." His dad answers.
"Well, we have chem together. And my teacher assigned us lab partners. And today I asked her if she wanted to hang out sometime and she said yes!" The boy, Ash, was exploding with excitement.
His mom and dad look at each other and shook their heads. "Ash, that is not how you're supposed to ask a girl out on a date." His mom sighed.
"Come with me, kid." His dad said, grabbing his wrist and pulling him towards the door.
"Dad, where are we going?" Ash asked.
"You are going to correctly ask her out." His dad informed him. Ash stopped dead in his tracks. "Let's go."
"I can't, Dad. I almost wet myself asking her to hang out. I can't do it." Ash shook his head frantically.
"You can and will do it. I'll be there with you, don't worry."
"Cause that makes it so much better."
"Whatever." His dad got tired of just standing there, so he picked his son up by his waist. "Wow, you got heavy since the last time I picked you up."
"Because the last time you picked me up, I was 8! Put me down!" Ash cried. But his dad didn't listen and walked outside holding Ash. As his dad walked over to the next house, a girl appeared, laughing.
Ash's dad smiled at the girl, "Are you Aileen?" She nodded with a grin. "Well, I have sufficiently embarrassed you, Ashton. Hope she says yes though." Ash's dad put him down. Ash was looking at Aileen, pink faced.
"Hey Ash." Aileen smiled shyly at him. He, not being able to find words, waved at her.
"Well, go on. Do it." Ash's dad gave his a small push.
Ash looked back at his dad and saw the encouraging smile on his face. Ash cleared his throat and took a deep breath. "Aileen...." He drifted off, looking into her eyes.
"Yeah?" She tilted her head lightly. That move alone made Ash realize where he was, who he was with, and what he was about to do. He quickly put his head down and turned away from her.
"Ashton, turn your sorry behind back around and do it!" His dad ordered him.
Ash took another deep breath and turned around to face Aileen again. Having this little slither of courage, Ash clung on to that. "Aileen, earlier, when I asked you if you wanted to hang out sometime, I meant do want to go out on a date. With me. Please?" He said quickly.
Aileen looked as though she was thinking about then laughed. "Did you just say please?" Ash's face was now turning red. "I'm actually quite surprised though. No one says 'you wanna go out on a date' anymore. Almost every guy just says 'you wanna hang?' or something like that. That's cute." She grinned and started back to her house.
"You didn't answer." Ash's dad said.
"Oh!" Aileen smacked her forehead. "My answer is yes, obviously. To be honest, who would say no to you?" She told Ash with a smile.
Once Aileen was in her house, Ash ran to his dad and hugged him. "Thank you dad. I love you so much."
