It Started with the List

The Box

(Ashton's POV)

Summer

"Hen! That's so stupid!" I yelled, smacking his head.

"I'm sorry for wanting to have some fun before we go to high school." He rolled his eyes.

"Egging our old science teacher's car isn't 'fun'. It's retarded." I inform him.

"I'd have to agree with that. I mean, you're my son and all, but I'd still report you." My dad said to me, messing with my hair.

"You wouldn't do anything, dad 2. If anything, you'd probably supply us." Henry said, knowing well that my dad would do that. Dad just let out a big laugh and went downstairs as my mom called him.

"Well, we have to do something different." I said.

"Oh, how about we make a list?" He asked.

"Of?"

"Someone's being stupid today." I threw a pillow at him. "Of things we want to do before we graduate. Duh." He threw the pillow back at me, which I caught.

"That sounds interesting." I said with a shrug. I grabbed a paper and pen and wrote 'HIGH SCHOOL BUCKET LIST' on the top.

Last day of summer

"Guys, it's our last hours of freedom." I state, looking at the time which read 10:32 pm.

"And you're spending it getting beat by my boyfriend." Liz says with a grin as Adam wins, again.

"Want to go to a party? Sam is having one." Henry said, looking down at his phone.

"Never in a million years." Reece says, shaking his head .

"Why not? I thought you liked to go to parties with Hen." Adam wonders, then starts a game verses a computer.

"Any other party, just not one of Sam's." He assures us.

"Is it because of what happened at the summer kickoff party?" Liz asks.

"Shut up." He replies, his ears turning pink.

"It really isn't something to be embarrassed about." Henry informs him. "At least you didn't do it while you were at a club or something." He added.

"Oh my god, Henry, shut up." Reece said, covering his face with a pillow.

My mother then came in the room, grabbed the controllers and turned the system off. "Lady! I was about to win!" Adam barks at my mom.

"It's your last freaking day, no, hours before school starts and what are you doing? Playing video games and making fun of Reece. Go outside." She demanded.

"Mother, it is night time outside." I inform her, pointing to the window.

"Do you think I care? Go outside, now. I need you guys out of my house." She pointed to the front door.

"What's up with this lady?" Reece wonders as we walk outside.

"Ashton," She calls from inside. I turn around to look at her. "Can you give this to the Evans? I've been meaning to but can't find the right time." She asks, handing me a box.

"Sure thing, mom." I say, she smiles then closes the door.

"What's in the box?" Liz wonders as we walk over to the Evans' house.

"No idea, she just told me to give it to them." I inform her, walking up to the door and knocking on it.

"Give me a sec!" A person yelled from the other side. A few seconds later the door was opened by Steven. He's 13 and friends with my sister. "Hey guys. AILEEN! IT'S FOR YOU!" He yells into the house.

"Who is it?" Someone yelled back, footsteps could be heard.

"Who's Aileen?" Henry wonders.

Steven walks away as a girl about our age comes to the door in her pajamas. "Hello people." She yawns.

"Hi. My mom wanted to give you this." I say, holding the box out.

"Who's your mom?" She wonders, rubbing her eyes.

"Dylan McGraw." I answer her.

"McGraw?" I nod. "Wait, that means.... ducking shirt." She mumbles before closing the door.

"Why'd she close the door?" Liz wonders. I shrug as Reece, Henry and Adam knock on the door.

"Yes?" Aileen says as she opens the door, looking irritated at Henry since he was still knocking on the door.

"Hey, you're cute." Henry commented, making her blush.

"You didn't take the box." I inform her, holding the box out.

"Oh, yeah, thanks." She grabs the box and, for a second, our fingers touch. It felt really weird. She quickly pulls away, closing the door on our faces.

"What is up with her?" Reece wonders as Adam and Liz start walking down the street and Henry is kicking a rock around. We're all walking down to the park since my mom wanted us to get outside.

"What are you talking about?" I ask.

"That girl. She was acting totally weird." Henry says. We reach the park and Liz runs straight for the swings.

"Adam! Push me!" She yells. He laughs and runs to the swings, giving her a kiss on her head before pushing her.

"Who can swing the highest?" Henry says, looking at me and Reece. We nod and then we start racing.

I know its a sucky first chapter but hopefully it gets better. I just suck at starting something. :( But please continue to read, I don't even like this chapter but the others are way better.
