Chapter 3: Divination Rite

The next day, Ishwin and Teo prepared to depart.

Although the divination rite was held within the town hall, parents were not allowed to accompany their children. Only staff members that was conducting the ritual were allowed inside.

Looking at Teo, Talwin said: "Teo, make sure to come back home right away after you graduate."

Fei hugged Teo and said "Write often, we love you"

Fei was holding back her tears. Teo was their youngest son, and although Aran the eldest son was due to come back, they received a letter saying he was going out to explore the world.

"I love you guys soon, I'll be back before you know it" replied Teo

Soon Teo and Ishwin headed to the town hall. There were around 13 children already there.

Although the village was considered small, since there was peace within the empire the population grew by a lot.

Within the Town Hall

Children were lined up in the order they arrived.

A total of 24 children were lined up waiting to take their divinations.

The town chief stood in front of them

"Today will be the yearly divination rite. Since you are all now of 10 years of age, this divination rite is for us to see your potential and a general outline of your future accomplishments."

The town chief looked over every child "Although it will not determine you exact future, it will help lead you towards the right direction with your potential. Remember, just because you have high potential does not imply you will be successful in the future. You must study hard and work hard"

"When we call you, please come to the front"

An elder was sitting behind a huge table that contained different colored rocks. These rocks were elemental rocks which contained elemental energy each color representing a different element.

The elder lit up 10 candles which burned into different elemental color. These candles were used to open up the elemental rocks so its essence could easily flow. The elder took a needle and grabbed the first child's hand then pricked it and a drop of blood was drop within the small cup containing black liquid.

The candles started flickering one by one. Each flame grew of different heights and widths. The essence of the elemental rocked flowed into the the cup and different areas of the cup glowed.

The elder observed the lights within the cup and wrote down the results. After that, he brought out a new cup and called on the next person.

Time passed

Teo was called down next

Teo stood beside the table and brought out his hand.

From observing the other people he knew that his blood was needed for the divination.

The elder pricked his finger and then the candles light grew small and 10 dim lights could be seen in the cup.

At first the elder was shocked when he saw the lights, but a hint of disappointment was seen on his face. The elder wrote down on a piece of paper and handed it to Teo.

Teo looked at the piece of paper and read it.
