The Olusola family was a small one, but it held the most important virtue in the world: love. Avi and Kevin are married and have two beautiful children named Scott and Kirstie, both at age six. The four of them remind each other how much they love each other, always making sure that they never feel unloved.

On the first day of first grade, Scott and Kirstie become friends with a boy in kindergarten. His name is Mitch Grassi, an young boy who lost his parents months after being born. He is taken in by his aunt and her boyfriend, the both of them making sure that he has everything he needs.

Well, that's what they want everyone to think.

What happens when Scott and Kirstie find out some things that their parents don't do to them, but Mitch's aunt and aunt's boyfriend do to him? What happens when they find out that Mitch is easily scared of the smallest things? What happens when he freaks out whenever he spills milk or forgets to put his toys away?
