"Come on, Emma! Time for school!" I heard my mom shout at my ear.
"Mom, what the hell? You didn't have to shout at me, I set my alarm, that's what's supposed to wake me up" I said, stretching my arms with eyes still closed.
"Well, it rang about 3 times but apparently Taylor Swift doesn't wake you up" She said, crossing her arms with a 'get up right now cause you'll be late for school' face.
"Come on, aren't you excited? It's your last first day of school! Senior year, TURN UP WOOHOO!" She said as she made this weird gesture with her arms.
"Mom, don't say that stuff, you're like forty" She embarrassed me all the time.
"Excuse me, young lady? I'm 39. Now get up, get ready and eat something cause it's about to go down!!!"
I looked at her with an "again?" face and got up so I could shut the door and get ready for school. It's really important that you wear something nice the first day because a first impression is always really important. However, my appearance was never something that really concerned me, I always dressed pretty simple.
White tank top? Here. Blue jeans? Ready. Brown boots? Aha. And never ever forgetting my red leather jacket.
I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, curled my hair, and added a little bit of mascara and eyeliner.
I went downstairs in a rush, sat down, started eating a poptart and then noticed the time: 7:20 am. I had to be at school at half-past seven.
I left half of the poptart on the table, sipped some milk out of the bottle, kissed my mother on the cheek and left.
"But you only ate half a popta-" she was cut off by the sound of the door closing.
I was tired of my mother being so overprotective and always making sure that I do everything right, blah blah. I mean, I definitely understand that she cares for me and that I'm all she has left and I'm her baby. But I am 17, about to be 18 which means an adult.
I got on my yellow bug and started driving. A school car trip without the radio on isn't a school car trip.
"YOU GOT THAT LONG HAIR SLICKED BACK WHITE T-SHIIIIRT!!!" I was singing as I parked my car when I noticed a very familiar face.
"Late on the first day of school? Doesn't surprise me, Mrs. Swan"
Ugh. The principal. Did she really have to be outside? Like isn't she supposed to be working right now? I've always hated her, but then again, I don't think many principals are likable.
"Sorry, Mrs. Mills. I didn't hear my alarm, I'll make sure to arrive early tomorrow" I said, looking down, cause I couldn't bear looking at someone in the eyes when they were mad at me.
"Yeah, that excuse is always heard. What are you coming up with tomorrow? Dog ate my homework? Very original. Don't think you are getting away with this easily, you're gonna see me at the principal's office after class, Emily"
"It's Emma" I muttered to myself. Was she really gonna make me go to the principal's office just because I was late for school? That's just being a bitch. I mean, I knew she was but I always thought she had something against me, particularly. Kind of funny, considering she doesn't even know my name.
"And she was making me even more late than what I already was, ugh." I thought to myself.
Everyone was already in class. I opened my bag to see the class schedule.
Mr. Gold.
From what I heard, no one likes that man. They say his class is boring and he is a really strict teacher, which obviously isn't cool when you are 17/18 and wanna have fun instead of doing homework all day. I've also heard he makes out with Mrs. Brown secretly, and one time they were seen by Jack, a guy who already graduated. He basically forced the kid to make a deal with him so no one found out about this, because Mrs. Brown wasn't exactly...single.
"You don't say anything about this and I'll make you pass my class. Deal?"
I don't know how everyone found out if that deal they made was true, but then again it could have been all made up. Both teachers told everyone that it was just a "high school rumor". I guess we'll never know. Anyways, I wasn't excited for his class at all. Apart from that I never liked history.
It was just two long periods of listening to him talk about stuff that I didn't even understand nor paid attention to. I wasn't much of a school person, never worked hard for it to be honest. My mom said I should worry more about it this year though, because I was gonna go to UNI next year. Not excited for it either.
Mr. Gold didn't even make us talk about ourselves which is what we usually do the first day of every year because of new people in our class and so the teachers get to know us. I guess he really wasn't a cool man at all.
As soon as the bell rang for the 10 minute recess we have every two periods, Lilly, my best and only friend came up to me.
"Emma! Why did you arrive so late today? Aren't you excited? We are seniorsss! Finally"
Lilly was my best friend ever, but we were really different. She was a really social person, had lots of friends, always excited about everything, and went out almost every weekend. She came to my house after school everyday, though, so we could do our homework and then watch some Netflix and chill. Literal term, don't be dirty minded. She was always there for me, and I couldn't love her more.
"Mrs. Mills. That bitch already ruining my first day" I said, rolling my eyes.
"Umm...I better leave it to you two" she said, and ran away.
"Huh?" I said as I looked behind me. Mrs. Mills was there.
"Um, I'm sorry, Regina"
"I prefer you calling me a bitch, than that. I am Mrs. Mills to you, Emily. Now, you will go to my office right now."
I was really in trouble. First day of school and the principal already heard me calling her a bitch?
"For being late or for...you know, what just happened?"
"Both" she said, as she walked towards her office expecting me to follow her. And that I did.
She gestured with her hands that I sat down, so I did exactly what told.
"I don't want you to be late ever again. Your parents will have to sign this paper and if you are late again, you will be in bigger trouble than that, I can assure you. And about the bitch deal. We are all a little bitchy sometimes, aren't we?" She winked and smirked. She wasn't thaaaaat bad after all. I could have been in worse trouble than that, but she let it pass. I guess her office makes her nicer or something.
I put the paper she gave me inside my bag and before opening the door to have at least 2 minutes of recess, I said thank you.
"It wasn't a favor, don't misinterpret this situation" she said, showing her bitchy side again.
I went outside and started walking towards my locker, looking down, when I bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry" I managed to say before I looked up at this tall, dark haired guy. And let's just say, he had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen.
"My bad" he said. And we had this eye connection going on that felt as if it lasted forever. But it was only a few seconds.
"Um, Killian. Killian Jones"
