Into The Sea

When I was born, Hades was waiting for me. My father prayed to the gods, pleading for my life. In a vision, Apollo appeared to him and told him that I would live to become a great warrior of troy. The next morning I was healthy. Hades didn't claim my soul yet. My father honored what Apollo had told him, and I was trained in the way of the sword. Years past and I matched my brother Hector in battle. My twin Paris was never one for this kind of life, slaying men, sending men to their grave..

Yet Paris started the war that made our great city come to its knees.

My armor shifted slightly with each step my horse took. My brothers ship had been spotted coming to our shore some hours earlier. The royal guard assembled themselves behind me as we rode towards the beach. Hector and Paris had been sent to finalize a peace agreement between Troy and Sparta, an old enemy my father sought to turn to peace. My sword slapped against my thigh as we flew across the sand. Two men flanked me while struggling to keep up to my incredible pace as the rst fell behind.

Hector stood on the port dressed similarly to myself. Before my horse was still, I threw myself from his back and into my brothers arms. He laughed and kissed my cheeks.

"Sister, still as lively as ever I see." He said through his ever present smile.

"It's good to see you brother. Father is anxious to hear how the peace agreements went." I said taking off my helmet and letting my elbow length hair tumble around me. Where paris was fair, i was angles and shadow.

Hector's smile faltered. Paris stepped off the ship and I greeted him with in kind. "Elips, I am glad to see you well. Come, I have someone for you to meet."

He took my hand, smiling from ear to ear, and led me to a beautiful woman with golden hair and light blue eyes that spoke of worry on what I would think. This was not the first woman Paris had loved. She gave me a nervous smile and a small bow. I looked up to Paris who gestured for me to introduce myself.

"I am Elips, daughter of Priam, princess of Troy." I said bowing to her.

"Helen of Sparta." She said in a soft voice.

I gaped at her, knowing who she was, and what her presence would mean. Queen of Sparta. Paris looked at me with hope in his eyes. Hector must not have reacted well to our brother bringing home this woman. A soft smile graced my lips.

"Welcome, Helen, to Troy." She looked relieved as did Paris.

"Thank you, Princess." She said.

I shook my head. "We are sisters now, call me Elips. Come, our people will want to welcome home our new princess and the two prince's."

I placed my helmet into my saddle and mounted my horse with ease that spoke of years of sitting atop a steed. More men and generals arrived with the guard to welcome the ship home and it's passengers. Hector mounted his steed and rode next to me while Paris and Helen shared a chariot. Paris had never been at ease on the back of a horse. We approached the great city at a steady trot as the gates opened and flower petals rained down on us. Children laughed and played as their parents cheered for their loyalty to our family. The closer we got to the palace the more nervous I became for my twin brother. Father was a generally kind man, but he had forged the treaty from the ashes of many Trojans.

It wasn't long until we reached the heart of the city where our father stood waiting atop the palace steps. We continued on foot up the steps. I ran ahead of the rest and reached father first. He held his arms open for me and I gently hugged him. He smiled down at me as he kissed my forehead.
