''Run! Evie, run!''
I stood frozen to the ground. I can't seem to move. The blood rushes past my ears. I can't register what's happening. We were only coming out for a simple stroll through the forest. This wasn't supposed to happen. Shouting and screaming snaps me out of my shocked state.
''Evie RUN!''
I look over to my best friend since forever, Cameron. He is covered in blood with some deep cuts but he was alive. I begin to run to him but he uses his alpha voice and forces me to stop and turn around. I try fighting it but I'm not strong enough. Tears blur my vision as I slowly start to turn away. My best friend Cameron is fighting alone against a dozen rogues and I can't help him. I know he wanted me safe but he'll die if I don't help.
Realising I'm halfway through the forest I decide to turn back and help him. Thirty seconds after my decision, a blood curdling howl rips through the night. My breath catches in my throat and tears silently cascade down my face. I sprint to the clearing to find dead bodies of the rogues.
No Cameron.
I count the bodies and realise half of the rogues are gone. They took him. They took my only friend. My legs give out and that's where I'm found a few hours later in a foetal position in the bloodied clearing, friendless.
