Castiel had been given a new charge in India that had been taking most of his time. Father had told him that Dean no longer needed his constant supervision. The angel felt pain for the first time. He wasn't sure what it was.

Jim Murphy hung up his phone after the call with Bobby. Dean was home but not responding to any treatment the doctor tried. The preacher knelt at the altar in his church and prayed for healing.
God heard his prayer.

Castiel watched the little girl play by the river, his mind, as usual, thousands of miles away. The afternoon sun made the river sparkle like diamonds floated upon it. He sighed.

'Castiel.'

The angel's head jerked up. 'Father?'

'I have given Samandriel charge over the girl. You must leave.'

'What have I done?'

'Nothing wrong, my son. The young man needs you.'

'Dean?'

'He is dying.'

'No!'

'Save him, Castiel.'

The angel vanished.
