"I-I'd better go home!" I shrieked, taken by astonishment. My face turned as red a beetroot, heat spreading through my cheeks.

Ignoring my comment, the girl said monotonously, "As for supper, I can only cook simple dishes like Fried Rice."

"Huh?"

"And you'd better call your family to pick you up. The telephone is on the cabinet."

Ah, the telephone... I have my own cell phone.

My eyes darted in many directions, looking around the place. This is Kujou Mikoto, my arch enemy's house?

What a small place...

"You cook by yourself? Where's your parents?" I piped up.

A reply came. "Mom has to work and comes back very late."

Suddenly the atmosphere turned dark and gloomy.

"I live in a single - parent family. Dad died in an accident when I was very little," she continued, showing a hint of sorrow.

I froze. "Oh... sorry..." I mumbled but I had to admit, I feel a little sorry for her. "But don't you attend cram school or something?"

"No. I don't have extra money." Upon hearing that, shock overwhelmed me and left me speechless for a moment.

"So you must love studying a lot?"

"Not really."

"Then why do you work so hard?"

She glanced at me for a moment and added, "Well, mom works late everyday to raise me, no matter how tired she is, even I hard times. So, I want to grow up and be independent as soon as possible. So I can..." there was a note of seriousness in her voice. Well, there always was. "let mum live a better life."

Cold sweat glistened on my outstretched palms, my pulse racing without end. Such a filial daughter. I...

An unfamiliar feeling rose up in me. For the first time ever, I felt like being defeated by someone.
Pretty much after that, I ate Kujou 's fried rice and it was surprisingly delicious. Later, my mom and my maid drove to Kujou's house to pick me up. Never in my life had I felt so disgraced.

I then dismissed all tutors and cram school classes the moment I got home. My parents were utterly confused, but I've determined...

To win her with my own strength.
