I Promise

Part 2

"Dear, I need to speak with you in the other room please. If you don't mind Mr. Sennen."

"Not at all, please take all the time you need."

Duke grabbed Tea's hand and pulled her into another room.

"What does he want with Yami." Tea asked again.

"He wants to buy Yami-" Duke began but Tea cut him off.

"WHAT. NO, NOT YAMI!"

"Darling please, just listen to me-"

"Yami is like your own son, yet you would sell him just like that!" Tea snapped.

"TEA THIS IS OUT OF MY CONTROL!" Duke yelled.

Tea went quiet. Duke buried his head in his hands and sat down in a chair by the window.

"The last thing I want to do is sell a boy I've pretty much raised since he was a baby, but my hands are tied... there's not many options for me left." Duke said the last part quietly.

"W-What do you mean?" Tea said speaking as softly as she could.

"I owe a lot of money, I took out a huge loan to start my business a while back. Let's just say business isn't going as well as I hoped. I'm holding on by a thread." Duke said broken.

"He's offering an extremely large price for Yami. I was hoping it would be enough to at least get my business of the ground and have enough time to pay off my loans. If I don't do something, we'll lose everything including Yugi..."

Tea covered her mouth. "Why didn't you tell me..."

"I never wanted you to worry. I want to see you smile everyday and when our un-born son died... I thought I'd lose you too. That's why I got you Yugi and Yami, to keep you smiling everyday and night. Now I'm afraid I'm going to lose everything ,INCLUDING YOU." Duke was in tears.

Tea stood there stunned.

"You never lost me..." she said barely above a whisper.

she walked over and lifted Duke's head up so that they were eye to eye.

"We'll get threw this. I know selling Yami is the last thing any of us want to do but-" Tea felt tears come to her eyes.

Duke got up and hugged his wife.

"It'll be hard but as soon as we have the money we'll buy Yami back, I promise."

Tea nodded.

"Out of curiosity Mr. Sennen. Why an interest in Yami?" Duke asked at the dinner table. It was just Tea, Duke and Professor Sennen at the table. Tea thought it would be best that Yami and Yugi eat dinner in their rooms.

"It's a rather personal reason. I do not wish to discuss it." Sennen said.

"Please, I've raised Yami since he was learning how to walk." Tea said. "We just want to know if he's going to be treated..." She trailed off.

Mr. Sennen sighed "Years ago my wife delivered a baby. Sadly the child was stolen from our estate only days after his birth. Soon afterwards my wife died of sickness. Her last words were that I would find our son and raise him at the university. I believe that Yami is my son, now I'm offering quite a bit of money for him so that this whole situation be kept tight under wraps. Now I would like to leave with my son as soon as possible."

"HOW DO YOU KNOW YAMI'S YOUR SON!" Tea snapped.

"Tea!" Duke said shocked. It was unlike his wife to yell at an important guest at the table.

"Please, I have spent years tracking him down. I know Yami is my son and I only wish that he come with me. I sure you that I will take good care of him."

"What do you think they're talking about Yami?" Yugi whispered and they were right outside the door. Yami had his ear up close to the lock.

"Shhhh! I can't hear them!" Yami hissed and listened more carefully.

All of the sudden the door flew open sending Yugi and Yami both to the floor.

"Boys! What did I tell you about listening in on adult conversations." Tea scolded.

"We're so sorry Misses." Yugi and Yami said at the same time.

Yami rubbed the top of his head. When he looked up he saw a very tall man looking down at him.

"You must be Yami." he said with a warm smile.

"I'm Professor Sennen, go pack your things because it's time I brought you home."

Tea was in tears as Yami was lead out of the house.

Yugi ran out to see what was going on.

"What do you mean Yami's leaving!" Yugi started crying "He can't leave!"

Duke patted Yugi on the shoulder "It's okay Yugi, Yami is going to a better place were they'll take good care of him."

Yugi sniffled "But what about me..."

"You'll stay here with me Yugi." Tea said sadly.

All of the sudden Yugi was being hugged from behind. When he turned around he saw that it was Yami.

"YAMI! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME. DON'T LET THEM TAKE YOU AWAY!" Yugi cried and hugged Yami tightly.

Yami started crying "I can't Yugi. I don't have that power yet." he let Yugi go and grabbed his wrist.

"When I grow up to be big and strong. I'll come back for you."

When he let go of Yugi"s hand, Yugi looked down at it. There was a piece of rope tied around his wrist.

"I promise Yugi Mouto, that I Yami Sennen will come back for you and when I do we will be together forever, as long as you never forget me." Yami vowed.

Yugi held back more tears.

"You promise?" he sniffed. Yami get inside the carriage.

"I promise."
