We sat in a dim lit hospital room, the smell of medicine roam around. I was covered in blood that wasn't mine and also wasn't my younger brother Zachary's. I winced at the sight of a strangled body in the bed next to where I sat and had to look away.
"Imogen?" I heard Zachary's distant voice call from across the room, he stands leaning against the door way. His short dark brown hair messy from earlier.
"Yeah?" I said not hearing my own voice, Zachary walks over to me and sits on the bed.
"You tried to save that man," Zachary wrapped his arm around my shoulders. Tears started rolling down my cheek, I almost saved the mans life, I kept telling myself but it wasn't enough, I needed to save him. I started balling.
"Imogen Avarie?" I heard the nurse call from the doorway, I looked at Zachary and he let me go. I walked over to the nurse and she looked at me with kind eyes, "The police have some questions for you." I nodded and followed the nurse over to the police man.
"Hi, I'm officer Pike," The officer said and took me over to a few chairs that lined one of the hospital walls, "I just have a few questions about what happen tonight." The officer had short blonde hair and seemed only around twenty.
"Okay, anything to help." I say wipe my face for any tears that I may have missed. Pike looked at his clipboard and begun as the body was being wheeled out of the room.
"So how do you know the man that has past?" He nodded toward the door to where the deceased body used to lay. I took a deep breath and answered his first question.
"I don't know the man. I was leaving the mall, and my brother was picking me up as my car was in the garage. I seen the man just lying on the ground by a car and another man was kicking him." I say and shake my head at the memory. Pike nodded and looked back at his clipboard.
"Okay, the name of the man was, John Hamilton, ring a bell?" Pike said and stared at me with uneasy hazel eyes. I shook my head at his question and he wrote something down, "Did you notice the man who killed Hamilton?" He asked.
"No, he was dressed in black and ran away before I could get a good look at him," I lied, and sat up straighter.
"No don't worry, we will catch him." Pike said distracted by something on his board, "One more question, did you hear a gun shot once you got outside?" He asked and the blood rushed from my face, I did not know there was a gun involved.
"No I didn't hear anything, was John shot?" I asked and Pike nodded, I then felt the tears come. Pike gave me a sad smile and stood up and looked down at me.
"I'm sorry," Pike said, his boots squeaking on the floor as he turned on his heel and left the hospital. I put my head in my hands and took a deep breath. There was things I couldn't tell the police about tonight and I've now promised myself that I will never tell anyone.
I look in my bathroom mirror, my blonde hair chlorine fried and my lips needed some chap stick, but overall I found myself uniquely pretty. I changed into some night clothes and scrubbed my body to the bone, as if I could get free of earlier tonight. I felt caught in a web of lies and I know I won't be able to untangle myself, ever.
I left the bathroom and went to my bed I crawled in my sheets and took a deep breath. The pillow smelt of my boyfriend, Ephraim Millar. We had hung out earlier before the accident as though it was a normal day, but nothing was normal about today anymore.
"Hey, Imogen?" I heard my mom's sweet voice call out from behind my closed bedroom door. My mom looked a lot like me but the only difference was her eyes hers were green and mine were blue.
