I look at the familiar white walls of the waiting room of my hospital. The paintings seem extra dull today, one poster is beginning to detach from the wall, the right corner curling away from the wall, the left one leaning over, reaching for the ground. They shpuld fix that. The normal artificial tree has been replaced, as the other one was beginning to look too torn up to leave out. Afterall, this is a children's hospital, little bratty kids always yank on things.

My mother is texting beside me, I glance over and see the normal name, Derik, who is that? She's been textin this 'Derik' for a couple weeks, is he a new boyfriend? I suppose that would be good, she hasn't dated since I was 11, and hasn't been in a serious relationship since Dad died, which was long before I was born. They were driving in the snow, Mom wasn't aware she was pregnant at the time, and a truck swerved into them. Dad didn't make it, but Mom woke up from a coma a widow, and well, expecting a baby.

"Willow Walker?" The nurse calls, she's new. I stand and follow her to the room Dr. Ezra will be meeting me in. Mom doesn't come with anymore, so I've started bringing books back with me. Without Mom's company, it gets lonely. I open my book, but hear the door

open. Dr. Ezra is earlier than normal today. I see her three times a month, for my checkuops. Five years ago I was diagnosed with Leukemia. Four years ago I began to get chemotherapy, and I've been getting three monthly checkups for about two years now.

"Hello Willow, how are you doing?"

"Well, lately I've been feeling much better than last time." At the last checkup I didn't feel very well, but my tests came back okay, so we just decided it was a false alarm.

"That's amazing. Let's go ahead and get basic information." She takes my height, my weight, and checks my vitals. "Do you want to talk about anything or would you like to get straight to the blood test?"

"Blood test. Nothing else to add."

She calls in the nurse, and she does my blood test. I've gotten used to the needle. Poke, sting, bandage. Simple as that, then we're out of there.
