The wooden door to Dan's apartment shut behind him as he entered his un-organized living room. There were papers lying about on his coffee table and the kitchen sink was piled up with dirty dishes. Tired, Dan walked straight to his room and closed the door behind him, throwing himself onto his comfortable bed. He was finally able to rest his mind after an entire day of working and stressing out about every little thing. This wasn't like him. But what choice did he have, with all the college exams coming up. Do I even want to go to college? he thought. Maybe it's just expected of me. Dan slowly sat up, and ruffled his hand through his messy hair. There weren't really any highlights in his life now that he had moved to Manchester. He never had anything to really look forward to. It was like his life was the same every day. Same day, same routine, same feeling day after day. He knew there was something missing from his life, but he just couldn't wrap his finger around it. Dan let out a yawn and looked at the clock resting on his bedside table.
8:34 P.M.
He still had time.
Dan walked over to his small desk and lazily slumped into the cheap rolley chair that sat under the desk. He pulled a small laptop from a drawer on the side of the desk and powered it on. The engine started as the sounds of the vibrating laptop echoed around the room. The sound soothed him, and a small smile spread across his pale lips. He slide his index finger across the smooth touch pad and opened the search engine.
Y... o... u... T... u... b... e...
He typed. The page began to load as Dan turned up the volume on his laptop and turned off the lights. Once the page had finished loading the bright lights of the screen shined directly onto Dan's eyes, making him flinch. He tried to adjust his eyes by blinking rapidly, only making it worse. Eventually he ignored the bright light and scrolled around the trending videos on YouTube. He'd always loved being able to watch videos from his home whenever he wanted, but he knew there was much more to YouTube than that. To Dan, it was an escape
He watched a couple fail videos, and some funny animal sketches here and there. After about twenty minutes, he finally decided to turn off his laptop and head to bed. He knew he had to get up early tomorrow to arrive at the train station on time, he didn't want to miss the train. Not again anyways. He was supposed to meet his family for the fall holidays, but he didn't seem very excited to do so. He was too tired with everything to have to face his family right now. He was afraid of what they would tell him about his college grades.Running a hand through his hair once more, Dan threw himself onto the bed and fell asleep, not even bothering to undo his bed or change into more comfortable clothes besides his black skinny jeans and black T-Shirt. He wondered what he would dream of today. Maybe his dream would be able to take him away for just a couple more hours, to give him a place to run to. Or maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be someplace, but a someone.
