Vanessa was walking home from
school. She heard the rustling of the fall leaves, and felt the cool wind on her back. Vanessa heard the distant ringing of the school bell. Vanessa was the class nerd. She was obsessed with Quantum Physics, not to mention Geography, editing, geometry, literature, vocabulary, and world culture. But, all those smarts had some bummers . Like, the bullying. Vanessa couldn't go anywhere without wondering if somebody was following her. Just then,she heard a bush rustle. She whirled around with lightning speed, and barely caught a glimpse of a scrawny boy scurrying off into the distance, as if he was watching her. Vanessa had the creeps. She tried to calm herself with her math trick, reciting complicated Quantum formulas. The boy stared at her, seeming nervous. Then, he waved to another boy behind the prickly hedge, and they both started walking towards her, calm and collected, much more than before. Vanessa straightened herself, walked away, feeling slightly nervous. The boys were running towards her, and Vanessa was tempted to run in opposite direction. The 2 boys were quite slow, so it took forever for them to reach Vanessa. When they finally reached her, they slowed. (Slower than they had already been going.) And they said 3 words: "Come with us."
