"Nice! Not too shabby for a rookie, just next time small talk with them wouldn't hurt, adults seem to like that." Elaine patted my shoulder and dialed the phone again "Its time for Pizza."
"El, it is almost 8:30 in the morning, isn't it too early for Pizza? Is a pizza place even open this early?"
"It is never to early for pizza! But i'll wait a couple of hours until one opens,in the meantime I am so hungry."
She went in to the pantry and roamed for a bit and pulled out a bag of chocolate chips and a box of waffle mix
"How bout we make Chocolate chip waffles?"
"Sounds good to me" I smiled at her stepping into the kitchen picking up a bowl to help her get started.
Half an hour and a messy kitchen later, we sat on Elaine's bedroom eating a huge stack of waffles.
"Elaine, I think your waffles are dead now, you have drowned the shit out of them in chocolate syrup" I told her while I laughed, i'd lost track of how many times she had poured chocolate syrup on those waffles.
"I cant help it, I have a serious problem" she said licking her fork "I am a chocolate addict not to mention a professional Foodie"
She was so thin you would have never guessed she ate this much, it reminded me of Niall.
"So who is the boy in the picture Millie, and how did you land here in Elmira out of all places?"
"He is my boyfriend" I told her I shoved a huge piece of waffle in my mouth trying to avoid explaining further. But she just sat there waiting for me to explain more. So I tried to with out the details. "Matt, my mom's husband brought us here. He is--The thing is--You see--" seriously what was the point of explaining "You wouldn't understand, its complicated, but point is I am here."
"You know" she put her plate down looked at me in the eye "I used to live more in the city. I've only been here for two years. You are in pain, there is something huge troubling you, and it is more than just leaving your Boyfriend in Ireland" I looked down escaping her stare, it's like she was reading my every move "I know because I had that same look in my eyes when I first came here."
"What? Did your dad get re married to some Jackass of a stepmother, did she also dragged you here by force like it wasn't enough taking the love of your dad away, but she also made you leave everything you now loved and finally meant something behind?" I challenged her, just to see if anything I ever said was something she could even handle.
"Not exactly" she took a deep breath "See My Mother left me and Dad almost two years ago next month, November 6th to be exact. She left us the day before I turned sixteen." I did not know if to hug her or do what but she didn't look like she was about to cry, she just carried on "You see Evelyn, my mother never loved us, I don't remember her ever saying she loved me, the only times she actually told me she did was when she drunk. I remember one time being about five years old, I was sitting playing with my toys when I heard a lot of yelling. I remember walking to their bedroom the door was cracked open, and I heard her yell at my Dad horrible things, how she only married him for his money, how he ruined her life by getting her pregnant, she hated me for ruining her body, that I was ugly and that she was ashamed of me. My dad saw me standing there crying, he ran to me and held me tight. He always let me know that he wanted me, that I was precious to him, that I was the best thing that ever happened to him, that he loved me, he would always love me." she took a pause.
Her mother sounded close to what Matt was, except Matt wasn't my biological anything, if what he told me hurt I could only imagine what Elaine had gone through.
