Doe stood in the doorway of her new bedroom. Joey walked up behind her planting a kiss on her neck. She turned and gave him the softest of kisses. "This is it," She whispered gazing into his big brown eyes.
"Yeah our first night in our own bed together," Joey whispered back cupping her cheek. Hand in hand they walked to the end of their bed. Doe walked to the side of the bed farthest from the room door.
"What are you doing?" Joey asked stopping her.
"I'm getting into bed," she said smiling. Joey giggled.
"Doe baby, that's my side." he informed her.
"No honey this is my side," She said sweetly. Joey squinted at her.
"You never slept on that side before," he countered. Doe stood toe to toe with him.
"That's because we were hooking up in hotels," she said crossing her arms. Their newlywed happiness was melting away.
"Well, I'm used to that side," Joey said crossing his arms too.
"So am I," Doe said holding her ground. Joey stomped his feet.
"Well I'm the man of the house and I am sleeping on that side," He said waving his arms in protest. Doe grabbed his arm and pulled it down.
"And the man of the house should sleep closer to the door." Joey sucked his teeth and put his hands on his hips. "Joey what if someone breaks into the house. You're supposed to protect-" Doe stopped mid sentence. She thought for a moment. "You're right I should sleep on the other side." She said suddenly walking to the other side if the bed.
"Wait, hold on. You trying to tell me I can't protect you?" he asked offended,
"Noo," Doe said slipping into bed. She patted the other side of the bed. "Come to bed baby." Joey stood at the foot of the bed stubbornly.
"You think I'm not a good protector," He said a little hurt.
"Joey no," Doe said crawling to the end of the bed and kneeled before him. "Joey I just think, well, your not very good in emergencies and I am in the Navy. I'm trained to handle a stressful situation." she explained pulling him in for a kiss.
"I'm good in a stressful situation. I'm an actor. Things go wrong all the time and I've kept my cool. It's called improve." He announced in a Shakespearean manor.
"Of course honey but it's not the same thing." Joey pulled away.
"No the," He stammered. "Well as the man of the house I will be sleeping door side because I CAN protect my woman," he declared getting into bed. Doe rolled her eyes and got back on her original side. "Goodnight, I love you." he grumbled.
"I love you too," she sighs happily. They each turned off their side lamp and settled deeper into bed. After a minute, the light popped on. Joey sat up looking down at his wife.
"Did you just reverse psychology me?" he demanded sharply. Doe didn't bother to open her eyes.
"No, I'm not smart enough to do that."
"Yes, you are. Switch me back." He started to crawl over her.
"Are you kidding me?" she said in disbelief as he started pushing her.
"No, you tried to trick me. Switch me the man of the house demands it!" Doe gave him a cold look. "Please." he added
"Fine take this side you, big baby," She grumbled. She turned her back to him to him and clicked off the light. Joey curled up to her and put his are around her waist. A minute later he sat up ad clicked the light on again. Not moving Doe issued a threat. "You better not ask me to switch again."
"But I like sleeping on my left side," He complained.
"Then sleep on your left side." she growled.
" I can't because then I can't cuddle up to my wife." Doe sat up and glared at him.
"You hate cuddling. You said it makes you hot." Joey poked out his bottom lip and gave her the puppy dog look.
"Yeah but I can't fall asleep unless you're in my arms." Doe tried to hold her stone face. The longer she looked at him, the more she melted.
"You're lucky you're cute," she said switching sides once again. Doe turned out the light and settled down to sleep. Moments later Joey clicked on the light. "OMG No. Joey, I am no moving again." Doe yelled at him. Joey jumped out of bed, ran to the door, and locked it. Then as a second thought, he put a chair under the knob. Doe couldn't help smiling as Joey jumped back in bed. He pulled her in for a kiss as they slipped under the covers. Still kissing her Joey reached up and clicked off the light.
