Welcome to the new and improved, "It's More Than Just a Game"! I first wrote this story when I was 15, I want to see how much more I can do to it. _________________________________________________________
*NOTE* ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder): classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder, ADHD is a disorder marked by the inability to focus attention, or by overactive and impulsive behavior, or both.
The room was the color of violet; one so calming and relaxing. I sat on the couch facing the middle aged woman; she had pale skin and was slender built. She had the most voluminous brown hair and calming hazel brown eyes. "Okay Alexandra, I need you to close your eyes and dig into your memories. It may be difficult, but remember that we are here to understand the source". I laid down on the spacious, cold couch and closed my eyes. "Now, take a deep breath and tell me about yourself. Then, I'm going to need you to tell me about what happened that day". I closed my eyes, and took the deepest breath I had taken in a while.
My name is Alexandra, and I'm 18 years old today. I live with my parents and our family dog, Daisy, in Rupert, Ohio. I'm a senior at Wilmington High School. I'm an honors student and hoping to graduate with the highest honors standing.
"Very good Alexandra, how was your school life?" I thought to myself for a moment and continued.
It hasn't always been easy for me to make friends; through elementary, middle, and even high school, I had a hard time making friends. Back in elementary school, I was diagnosed with ADHD; because of this, it wasn't easy for me to make friends because they thought I was weird. Around this time, I became friends with Jeralyn; she's been my best friend ever since. Unfortunately for us, she moved to Arizona with her family before high school began. However, we still keep in touch and she comes down to visit every summer. Back in middle school, I met Olivia, Charlotte, Noah, and Lucas. Since I met them, we all became pretty close and it's been really great having them around.
"How was middle school and high school?" I felt myself begin to sweat and spoke.
The beginning of middle school was great; I had all of my friends and we all had a blast before Jeralyn moved away. It wasn't until the end of 8th grade that things started changing. If I remember correctly, I was in my chemistry class freshman year; because of my ADHD, my teacher made some accommodations to make sure I had a balanced learning environment. In this class, I met Jessica, Ana, and Gerard. They weren't so nice to me once they caught onto my disorder. They mocked me in class when the teacher didn't notice, said derogatory things to me in front of our peers, and used to send me cruel messages online calling me the R word or telling me that no one wants me. Around this time, my grades began to falter and my parents were notified. They weren't too happy at first, but then understood why I had been so distracted. The school eventually got involved and those three were suspended. I still felt like crap, but my parents enrolled me into some extracurricular activities to keep me occupied and my friends helped me too. Things were going pretty well up until junior year.
"And what happened junior year? Remember, take your time and take deep breaths to remain calm". I began shaking and the therapist spoke and did my best to recollect the events that occurred that day.
