Chapter 1: Naruto's Fate

     It was just a few days after the kyuubi no kitsune's attack on Konoha, and the council was deciding what to do with the new born Naruto. "We have to keep the demon within the village. Who knows what will happen if we let that thing go!" Homura Mitokado exclaimed.
     "I agree with him." Koharu Utatane said. "The demon child is our problem now. Why should we let him go?"
     The Third Hokage looked up and glared at the two former teammates. "I have sent word to his godfather, Jiraya. His reply was that he wanted to take care of Naruto his own way, one way or another." The Third emphasized the young babe's name, as to get the point across that he was no monster, but a jailer of one instead. "I think it would be wise to have Jiraya take care of him. He need someone to raise him and show him compassion."
     "So why would it have to be your former student, then?" Danzō questioned. "Wouldn't it be wiser to have one of our own shinobi raise him. One of my men would do a fine-"
     "One of your men? His own godfather wants to raise him, may I remind you. I believe he has the right to do so." Sarutobi said sternly. "It would be cruel to let him not."
     "You mean someone is willing to take him?" Koharu said in surprise.
     "Yes."
     "Then I agree with Hokage-sama. If someone is already willing to raise him, I say let him!"
     "But will Jiraya keep the child within the village walls?" Homura asked.
     "I don't know. However, what I am sure of is that Jiraya will raise Naruto properly." The Third responded.
     "Even if he takes him out of the village's protection?" Homura pried further.
     "Yes, Mitokado-san, even if he takes him out of the village." Sarutobi answered surely.
     Homura nodded his head and hummed, "Well, if you trust him..."
     "Why should we take the child out of the village, Hokage-sama?" Danzō questioned. "In here, he is protected from the Akatsuki. Here, we can watch him and his development. Why should we let him leave, even if it is with his godfather?"
     "I trust Jiraya, and Jiraya is perfectly capable of raising Naruto." The third stated. "Even if you may not agree with it, the majority of us do. I believe that Jiraya will raise Naruto the best that he can."
      Before Danzō could say anything else, a knock came from the other side of the door. "Hokage-sama, Jiraya-sama is here to see you." A guard said.
     "Send him in." The third replied.
     Jiraya casually walked into the conference room, a grim look on his face. "I'm here for Naruto, if it's okay."
     "It's good to see you to Jiraya." The third said. He motioned for Jiraya to come towards the crib in the corner of the room. Jiraya did so and found in the crib Naruto, a peaceful look on the baby's face.
     "He looks just like his father. Except the whisker marks."
     "Yes, he does. Those are birthmarks. We believe them to be from the influence of the kyuubi."
     Jiraya nodded, "So, is it settled then?"
     "Yes, you are allowed to take him and raise him as your own. However, we request that you raise him here until he's four, that way we can see him as he grows for the first few years."
     Jiraya nodded again. "I'll agree to that. It's worth it."
     The Third Hokage nodded in agreement. "Then let it be official, Naruto Uzumaki shall be raised by you, Jiraya."
     "Uzumaki? Why not Namikaze, after his father?"
     "We don't want him to be hunted down by his father's enemies."
     "I'll be with him, so adding Namikaze should be fine."
     "So it shall be."
