Chapter Twenty-Two

Start from the beginning

I glance over to Jordan, who's chewing her lip, as usual, and staring out the window. She's got her earphones in, softly bopping her head to the melodies. A book rests in her lap. It doesn't take long for me to study Reid, because it's not like I haven't taken it all in before. Her hair is down so you can see her single lighter piece which falls on the right side of her face. Her lips are are gentle and pink, often swollen and raw from her subconscious habit. Her eyebrows, well, they're eyebrows. I know they aren't 'on fleek' and they aren't 'goals' either. They're light,  so she dyes them sometimes, but they always fade back to their colour. Jordan doesn't have flawless skin, there's freckles, and marks, and blemishes here and there. I've never seen Jordan without a single gold stud in each ear. She's worn a cheap, nasty, rainbow bracelet for two years now, never taken it off. I told her when she bought it that it was an anklet, but she told me to fuck off before tightening it around her wrist. Jordan doesn't have  super-skinny legs or a nicely toned stomach. She has curves, but they're not always in the 'right places'.

Don't get me wrong, Jordan is one of the most attractive girls I know, but what I'm try to say is, she's not as perfect as everyone thinks. Despite all her flaws, all her imperfections, this is what makes her human. I've sat Jordan Reid on a pedestal for so long. The hot blonde, a complete bitch, my best friend's little sister, my worst enemy, desired by every male in our school, a girl so far away, yet so close to me.

Jordan Reid is so unbelievably average, yet so heartbreakingly beautiful.

"Why aren't you reading?" I ask.

"I get car sick." She replies.

I know you get carsick Jordan, you've had it since you were six years old. I only asked because I didn't want you to know that I pay such close attention.

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"Are we the-"

"No."

Ruby groans in defeat and slumps into Jordan's shoulder.

"We're here now though." Mrs Reid announces with a grin.

The car pulls into the front of a very impressive hotel

"So, who's rooming with who? Ruby and Spencer, would you two like to go together?" I offer with an innocent smile.

Ruby chokes on the water she's trying to swallow. "What?" She splutters, wiping the water off her tank top.

"Obviously we'd be together, seeing as you're my favourite roomie." Spencer growls, digging his nails into my arm from behind.

Mr and Mrs Reid look thoroughly confused, so they walk away to go check ourselves into the hotel.

"Oh, do you mind if I ditch you Reid? I know you were really looking forward to sleeping with me." I smirk.

She feigns disappointment and sighs. "Fine. But next time we go away together, you're with me."

"Of course darlin, that'll be our honeymoon." I tease back.

A faint blush rises on Reid's cheeks, but that's soon forgotten when we turn our attention from each other and back to our friend's unimpressed faces.

"I would rather marry Jacinthe than marry you." Jordan laughs.

"I would rather marry Logan than marry you." I mimic.

I can sit here and admire Jordan all I like, but at the end of the day, the mutual hate between us surpasses all fascination I hold for her.

"See you around Spence! I hope you fall off your room's balcony Carter." Jordan smiles sweetly, before skipping off to the elevator.

Mr Reid hands Ruby and Spencer the two seperate room cards and reminds us all to behave. He informs us that we can have the rest of this afternoon to ourselves, but we must report bright and early to the lobby tomorrow morning for Disneyland.

"Stop with the funny business." Ruby warns as she walks past me towards the direction of her room.

Spencer looks a little bit pissed at me from my flirtatious teasing, but seems to forget all about it when he sees the size of our flat screen television.

I throw myself on the white single bed, and feel my body sink into the mattress. Part of me has the urge to pay Reid a little visit tonight, but my better judgement decides against it.

After all, I'm on this holiday as Spencer's bestfriend, not Jordan's best enemy.
