before i met you,
i was made of blacks and whites
and a multitude of grays;
hollow and monotone,
a little raincloud.
and i was fine that way
(colors were for kids
and people who were happy.)
but you - oh you,
you were a rainbow
of every color,
and you came with the sun.
your electric yellow energy
started up my mechanical heart,
and your bubblegum pink laugh
was oh so sweet.
i never loved color
until i loved you,
and i was no longer gray -
i was ocean blue eyes
and candy red smiles;
your sunshine turning me
into a kaleidoscope of color.
i never wanted it to end.
but you found another island
to shine your light upon,
whose colors merged with yours
in a way mine never could.
and i watched -
watched as all my lovely colors
ran and faded and swirled together
and drained away
under the rainstorm
that was my bitter heart.
my world has returned
to steely gray,
and i have never
missed the colors more.
