Brooklyn had become mute when she was 4 because she drank bleach thinking it was water. The bleach burned out her vocal chords. Her parents thought she was insane and put her in a mental hospital. Miranda was blind. She had been since birth, yet she was always so bubbly and loud. Her parents died in a car crash not long after her birth. As a result, she had to live with her grandparents and they felt she was mentally unstable because of how happy she was even though she had so much to cry about. As for Lisa, she was deaf, she always blasted her music on 100% volume and it shattered her eardrums. Her older sister told their parents that she did it on purpose, that she wanted to go deaf to gain more attention. They put her in the mental hospital farthest from their home. So, you see there was a missing sense in each of these kids. They may have come to the same hospital at different times, but they all came to be friends. The three of them together make a completely functioning person.
