"Caroline."

"Caroline?" The doctor repeated.

Holly looked down at her new born baby's small pudgy face. She stroked her dirty blonde hair and smiled. This was all she wanted; a family and it was all I wanted for her.
"Caroline is perfect." I noted, peering over my wife's shoulder. I admit I am scared. Being a father is a huge responsibility but I wouldn't give my baby girl up for the world. She was all mine. I kneeled down beside Holly and kissed her forehead. "Are you happy?"

"I am." Her smile was bright and proud. I rose to my feet but was quickly pulled back. She grabbed my arm and pulled me close to her. "Thank you." She whispered into my ear.

"Don't... today is a happy day." I brushed her long black hair behind her ear and gave her a soft peck on the cheek. "I love you."

Finally we were allowed to bring Caroline home. I couldn't wait to get out of there. The bed was uncomfortable and the nurse wasn't polite. Dan tried to make the experience the best for me but I just couldn't get over how rude she was. He asked me if I wanted him to tell her about my condition but I can't stand people feeling sorry for me. It's better when people are real with me.

"What are we going to tell Karen?"

"Well she has been asking for a baby sister for Christmas."

"It's March, Dan."

He chuckled at my remark. "Then we'll tell her that Caroline is a late present. But didn't she already know you were pregnant?"

"She's three, her only focus is who Ken the prince will take to be his princess. She just thinks I have been stress eating."

He looked at me with his dreamy hazel eyes and seamlessly hushed me with a gentle smile. "Take a deep breath, we'll figure everything out."

"What are you going to tell her when she gets older?"

"It will be all right. Don't stress about it."

It was different this time. Karen was adopted a year ago. It's not that I care for her any less. It's just that Caroline is my flesh and blood; my little girl. I know this sort of makes me look like a terrible father and I hate myself for it. I'm only scared because it is the first time that I am taking care of a baby. This time I am starting from scratch. I just don't know how I am going to do this alone. Holly wanted a perfect family of four. She wanted to give birth to at least one baby if there was no time for two; and unfortunately for us, there wasn't. I am glad to have made her dream come true though. She constantly worried about everything. I try to relax her and get her everything she wants. I want her to spend her last days in paradise.
