Elena turned human but the sleeping curse never happened. Elena moved away from Stefan and Damon for three years and when she came back, she had a one night stand with Matt Donovan while drunk.
This led to her being pregnant. Not wanting to tell anyone but at the same time not able to get an abortion, she birthed the child and had it adopted.
When she died, at 91, Katherine Pierce was resurrected.
Elena's daughter had a son who then had a daughter.
