A high pitched alarm began screaming through out the ship quickly followed by the soothing voice of the programmed auto pilot. "May I have your attention, we will receive a missile attack in approximately three minutes. Please stay in your pods and remain calm." What was happening?!
Adam could "hear" all the voices of the other 4 travelers in his head. His brain was trying to register everything at once. He was trying to focus on what his mother was saying, yet he could "hear" and feel everyone else's thoughts and emotions too. Terror was filling him. His father's confusing myriad of extreme emotions escalated his own fear. Extreme emotions were not something he was familiar with. The people on board were the most advanced of their civilization. They were always in control of their emotions and thoughts. Since Adam was born with the ability to hear others thoughts, and feel their emotions this onslaught was almost more than his six year old mind could handle.
Then he felt his Mother's presence. A second later she spoke to him in his head. Not only was she telecommunicating with him she was actually speaking out loud. Her voice trembled. There was an urgency he had never heard before. "Adam Darling, you must listen to me very carefully. What I am about to say has never been more important! Our ship is about to be attacked. The pods we are in are designed to eject us if our shield can not repel the blast. It is not looking as if it can. Obviously, the communications we thought the humans received, have not been translated correctly, or they are simply unwilling to receive our help.
Adam could not remember ever hearing fear in his parents voices. Something must be wrong! Very wrong! They rarely used their actual voices. Communicating telepathically was so much easier.
"Adam, listen to me!" His Mother's voice cut through to him like a clear station finally breaking through static on a radio. And He could feel her intense love for him. It was deep, endless and so powerful it actually felt like a warm gossamer blanket wrapping around him. It helped him to focus and block out everything else but her. "You are so loved Adam. You must survive. Use your powers. You are the strongest of all of our kind." Eeeeh!!! Eeeh!!! Eeeh!! The sirens were now blaring at a painful pitch. "Impact is imminent." The contrast between the intense beeping of the siren and the serene voice of the auto pilot was almost comical. "Adam, focus." he heard his fathers say. "Soon, you will need to use everything we have taught you and everything you will learn to either find a way to return home... or to make Earth your home." Then he felt another presence, and a thought so filled with aggression and power lust that if he had been standing, it would have dropped him to his knees. "This Earth will be mine!" It came from The Warrior! Adam felt the alarm, shock and fear, that the other 3 inhabitants of the ship just felt. "Count down to impact begins"...the calm voice of the auto pilot broke in. "Adam" his Mothers voice cut through; I believe in you!" "Five, four" the annoyingly calm voice of the auto pilot overlaps and blurs what his parents are trying to say to him. "We believe in you Adam. You can do this." The voice of the auto pilot drones on "Three, two....."
Adam hears the last part of what his mother had been saying "In my vision, you helped save this Planet. Despite what may happen; Earth is worth saving. Please remember that. Remember the writings. Use your gifts with noble intent. We love you Adam."
