CHAPTER ONE:
I sigh, hanging up my apron as I wave goodbye to my fellow cafe staff. I quickly run through the kitchen and out the back door, checking my watch. Five minutes. I have five minutes to make it to the office. Running a light jog, I make it with thirty seconds to spare. I flash my ID at the small sensor, and it beeps as the glass door slides open.
"Trinity!" A loud voice calls out. I whip my head around to my left to see my boss standing in one of the management offices, his face slightly red and bushy moustache twitching with every word, saliva flying everywhere.
"So good to see you! We need you on the fifth floor, one of our accountant's computer is glitching." He continues, pointing me towards the elevator. I bite back a smart remark, and nod, answering -
"Of course, I'll go up now." I flash a tight smile before striding over the empty elevator. He nods a satisfied smile to me and turns, briskly walking down the hall.
My second job, after being a waitress at a quaint little cafe down the road, is being the after-hours IT girl. Pretty much I arrive one hour before the office closes, and make rounds of the building, making sure all the technology is working fine with the workers. Then once everyone has gone home, and the night security arrive, I stay and continue fixing equipment until everything is working again. Sometimes my boss, Mr. Randell, will leave me a list of things to do, which get broken while I am away during the day.
I arrive on the fifth floor, and am greeted by Vanessa, one of the accountants.
"Oh thank goodness you're here!" She exclaims, eyes widening.
"My computer - it just, it won't let me open any of my documents!" her bright pink lips are drawn into a pout. I resist the urge to roll my eyes, and walk towards her office.
"I'll check it out" I offer, throwing her a smile over my back.
Her office door is open, and I enter, immediately spying her computer sitting on her desk. I sit at the desk, and while Vanessa scurries off to grab a coffee I set myself to work.
This is too easy, I think to myself. She accidentally downloaded an amateur virus, which I can easily decode in minutes. I snort, wondering how many naive people this simple code has tricked. By the time Vanessa has returned her computer is back in working condition. She quickly thanks me as she slides into her seat, resuming her work.
The next few hours go much like this, and it is 8pm by the time I leave, waving goodbye to the elderly night staff. I lightly jog back to my apartment complex, arriving at the cheap building within ten minutes. I stop for a moment and allow my eyes to drift over the place I call home. It is four stories high, and I reside on the second floor. The paint is peeling, and the door is always a struggle to lock and unlock. But hey, rent is cheap and allows me to spend a majority of my money on my sky-high electricity bills. My side hobby is hacking into various corrupt companies, giving back the money the scum bags stole from others. Although I work a lowly IT position, I am one of the most skilled hackers in the world. I stay low key, but also consequently, lonely. After I collect my noodles from the microwave, and sit down at my desk, ready to being tonight's hack, I hear a loud knock at my door. My eyes shoot up, and I glance at the clock, reading 8.23pm. My eyebrows furrow, who comes knocking at this time of night? Probably the landlord I conclude, coming to check on the tenants. Although I believe this is the case, I stay on high alert. I shout
"Just a minute!" As I rush to put on a pair of pants, wearing only my oversized pajama top. I crack open my front door, and peek out. My eyes meet eye-and-eyepatch. My body immediately tenses, this is definitely not my land lord.
