I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock, immediately dreading this day. I could think of a million painful things right now, but school was by far the worst. I guess it's kind of depressing that I no longer worry whether I will have a good day at school or not like any normal person does, but its honestly no longer a surprise to me anymore.
I don't really know why I started to get bullied since I kept to myself most of the time. I think its just the facts that I look so innocent. I have a pale sad face with freckles covering my cheeks. My red hair is long and straight and I don't feel the need to style it. But what really gets to me are my big green eyes that basically mirror my sad self. I might as well be wearing a sign or something.
Everyday is basically the same. My mom works early so I get dropped off mabey half an hour before school starts. Everyone is in there little group of friends except for me. I normally spend that time reading next to my locker "accidentally" getting kicked now and then. Its the time I have to mentally prepare myself for the day before school starts.
Once the first bell rings the tourture begins. I head to math and let me tell you how obnoxious my teacher is. He's one of those "if you set your mind to it you can do anything" type guys and thinks if he calls on me enough I'll magically get the answer right. Of course I don't, getting a couple of laughter and judgement. I absolutely suck at math.
Second period is gym and I don't really think I need to explain how that goes. If you take a skinny unathletic girl like me and picture her in a gym class with a bunch of braty girls your imagination will probably get it right. Its mostly the get picked last with occasional mocks and head injuries. It also doesn't help my self esteem seeing all those girls with curves. I'm identical to a stick.
Third period goes just as bad. I don't know what it is about biology but I just can't stand it. After that its off to lunch. I basically gave up on eating at school, because no matter how much I try to play it cool my lunch always ends up on the ground. I normally sit in the corner of the hall reading. I could never get enough of books. However, I am always able to hear the slightest judgment.
However, the absolute worst part of my day is, fourth period. There's nothing wrong with the class itself. Its an English class and I love English. Its just that right after lunch my teacher takes her time to get there and that class is filled with the worst people. If you had to spend 10 minutes in a class full of people who hated your existence without adult supervision you'd hate it to. I walked into class with my head down trying not to make eye contact with anyone. Out of nowhere I trip over a foot, launching me right into a table. I could tell there was going to be a huge bruise on my hip tomorrow morning. Behind me are howls of laughter but the loudest was from Peyton, some chick that hated me the most out of everyone in this school.
"Wow Abigail that was pretty pathetic, even for you." She said.
I quickly got all my books and started for my desk doing my best to hide the pain.
"Did I hurt you this time?" she snorted. "Mabey when your dad comes home he'll make you feel better."
I stopped at that. I didn't have to pretend that it didn't get to me. She knew it got to me. The jerk gambler of a father left me and my mom when I was five and I was stupid enough to think he would come back. It was the hardest thing to see my mom try to recover from that so I try to block the whole thing out.
"Shut up" I mumble. That was the best I had. Its not like there was a clever comeback I could come up with.
"No, I only say that cause of how certain you were in kindergarten. What did you say? You know, how he was only on a small trip."
"I said shut up!" I screamed louder. For some reason I stept closer to her and immediately regretted it.
Peyton quickly stepped forward and slapped me, causing me to stumble.
"I think you should walk away now" she said with a smirk. I stared at her for a second with pure hatred, then decided to walk away. I hated her so much.
I sat at my desk and put my head down. This was the time I needed to block out the rest of the world. Unfortunately that was cut short when a ball of paper hit my shoulder. I shut my eyes in frustration trying to ignore it. I assumed it was one of Peyton's slave. Then I was hit with another, then another. I was so done with the day already and this person thinks throwing balls of paper will damage me more.
I turn around to see who this jerk was and I was a little shocked. It was Gregory Williams, staring right at me. I was so confused. All I knew about him was that he was knew this year and he was actually pretty nice. I mean I never talked to him but he was one of the few who didn't take after the rest of the jerks here. That's pretty rare for me so I consider anyone like that a nice person.
He looked me dead in the eye and mouthed something to me.
Read it.
I grabbed one of the balls of paper and unfolded it. It had a single word right in the middle that filled me with so much anger. I was chocked up looking at it wanting to cry in frustration. In the middle I read,
Date?
I got up and walked over to him with a serious look that I prayed he saw. I got right in his face.
"What's this?" I said.
"I'm pretty sure thats a piece of paper." He said sarcastically.
"I can see that, I want to know why you gave it to me."
"Its a fair question isn't it? You and me on a date."
"Cut it out! I know Peyton told you to do it to play with my emotions!" I snapped at him.
"Why do you find it odd that a guy is asking you out on a date?"
I just glared at him. The thing is I did find it odd. I've never talked to him then all of sudden he's asking me out. I would find it odd if any guy asked me out. I'm not really girlfriend material. There's nothing special about me that any guy would want to show of.
"Look you don't have to answer me know." He said as he grabbed a piece of paper and started to write on it. "Here is my number. If you decide that you do want to do this just give me a call."
I hesitantly took the piece of paper and went back to my seat. The rest the day was a blur. I could not take my mind off of what happened. What did he see in me?
