North Carolina

Dawson walks into the small, homely dinner in North Carolina. She spotted Elise behind the counter and walked over to it leaning on it.
"So I've been told this is the best place in north Caroline for coffee" she said as Elise looks up at her
"Hey Peter!" She yells laughing
"What?" He called from somewhere in the kitchen
"You've got company" she said. "How you been?" She asked poring a coffee out.
"I've been better" she said looking down
"Dawson?" Asked Peter as she looked up smiling
"Hey" she said as she ran over to him hugging him
"What are you doing here?" He asked her

"Clearing my head. Trying not to seem like an emotional wreak" she told him
"What happen? Someone didn't die did they. Cause you really should have called me about that" he said which cause gabby to break down into tears
"I lost it" she said sitting down
"Your job?" Asked Mills confused
"No I still have that, for how long I'm not too sure though. I walked out at the end of shift didn't say a thing and came here" she told him, she looked up and he was still confused
"Matt and I, I was pregnant and I was an idiot and I didn't listen to him when I should have and I didn't tell him about it until it was too late. I lost our baby and now all I want to do is with curl up into a ball and hide away from the world or go back in time and fix it and I can't" she said looking at him
"Well stay for as long as you need" he said.

A few days later while gabby was helping out at the dinner her phone rang. Looking at it she saw it was the chief
"Sir?" She asked him stepping outside
"Gabby! We're worried! Where are you?" He asked
"I'm in North Carolina. I'm staying with Mills. I'm sorry I didn't tell you but I just needed to get out. With everything that has happened I feel like Matt blames me" she said crying, what she didn't know was that she was on loud speakers and Matt was also in the room, crying.
"Dawson I am giving you a month and if your not home. I am coming to get you. I will not have another firefighter walk out on this house" he told her
"Thank you sir. Please tell the others not to worry" she said
"Oh they'll worry!" He told her hanging up

"Ready to fight for her?" Asked the chief looking at Matt. As he nodded.

A month later

"Chief if Dawson not on shift tomorrow. I'm going to get her" said Severide walking up to him at Molly's
"Good, I don't think Casey will be in the right mind set anyway" said the chief as Herrmann worked in front of them.
"I'm coming with you" he said looking up
"Cindy and I. We lost our first ever baby at 4 months her body just said no" said Herrmann
"Does Casey know this?" He asked
"Yeah where do you think he is? He's been talking with Cindy a lot about it" he said.

The crew all stood around the common room the following morning with baited breath but Gabby never showed and then Severide and Herrmann just took off. Putting more pressure on Matt. To the point where Chief benched him.
"We're here for you Matt" said Cindy walking into he's office
"Thanks" he said. Cindy stayed late that night, helped out with the house. She felt like she got a look into her future feeding all the firefighters, she now quietly dreaded the day her boys grew up to be the size of the ones at 51.

2 days of no sleep, hardly any eating and a little bit of drinking and Matt was back on shift, he was so out of it he didn't notice the extra car out on the street, but stopped dead in he's tracks when he heard her laugh. He was frozen on stop, Kelly walked out to him and chuckled
"Tell me I'm not dreaming" he said
"Your not dreaming, hey Mills get out here!" Yelled Severide
"Mills?!" Asked Casey as the one and only Peter Mills walked out onto the rig flor
"Hey Casey, so I was wondering, got a spear spot for me?" He asked
"Depends, you going to run off on us again?" He asked
"No, as much as my mum and sister love me. I apparently drove them nuts!" He said
"Pretty sure you started a fire in the kitchen just to put it out" said Herrmann walking out joining them laughing
"Guys that's brilliant but where is she?" He asked
"Locker room" replied Brett coming to stand next to Severide. He raced though the group and the halls of the house, racing into the locker room. Pulling up short when he sees her. She's pulling her 81 shirt on. He doesn't think he just acts. One minute he's looking at her the next he's kissing her and the next she's kissing him back. Pulling back once breathing became a priority he kept their foreheads together, slowly he opened he's eyes to look at her.

"I am not going to say I'm sorry, cause I'm am done feeling sorry and hurt and guilty for what happened, I love you Matt. You are my home and I can't live without you in my life. I went to North Carolina to clear my head, I wasn't going to come home, that was until these two, told me how much of a wreak you were. So what I am sorry for is leaving you, making you pick up your heart along with mine and try and put them both back together" she said looking at him
"I don't care anymore all that matter is that you're home" he said as this time she kissed him. Hearing the cheers and hollers of their colleagues
