Tara

August sat next to me avoiding contact.

"Hey, August." I said politely.

"Hi." He mumbled.

I frowned, "Are you okay?"

"I'm not suppose to talk to you so can you please leave me alone."

"Who told you that?"

He stayed silent.

"Aug-"

"Tara, is there something you would like to share with the class?" Ms.Cremeans asked, stopping in the middle of her lesson.

"No." I quickly replied.

"Pay attention." She gave me a stern look.

When she turned around I focused my attention to August.

"Who told you that, August?"

"Y-your boyfriend." He told me with his head still down.

I rolled my eyes knowing it was Chris.

"He's not my boyfriend."

"Well he told me to leave you alone."

"Can you look at me please?" I asked.

He slowly looked up at me. His glasses were being held together by tape and he had a noticeable black eye.

"Did he do this to you?"

"It's not a big deal." He shrugged.

"Yes it is. If you let this continue you could end up in a hospital....or worse." I told him.

"Why do you care? You just met me yesterday." He retorted.

"I care because I don't accept bullying. You need to fight back."

He mumbled something under his breath but I couldn't hear.

"What did you say?"

He sighed, "I don't know how to fight"

I giggled making him look at me and smirk.

"So you think that's funny?" He asked.

"No, No. I can teach you." I said.

"No offense but what can you teach me? You're a girl."

"Please, I've been boxing since I was six." I cockily said, flipping my hair.

"Well how does today after school sound?"

"Sure." I smiled.

I walked with my tray and noticed August, sitting all by himself.

"Come on." I told Lani as I walked over to the table he was sitting at.

His head lifted up when he heard our trays against the table.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Sitting with you, do you mind?"

He shook his head with a slight smile forming on his face.

"Aren't you in my AP calculus class?" Lani asked him.

"Yeah."

I have all AP classes except for calculus because it's hard enough passing basic math.

"I like your face." She blurted out.
