moving day:

"Baby girl, are you sure you're ready to go and live out on your own?" her grandmother said sweetly as Skye stuffs her books into a box.

"Yes, grandmama. I've told you a million times, I'm not changing my mind. I'm going to move out to NY, attend NYU and I'm going to be just fine." She sighs.

"Now don't catch an attitude with your grandmother little girl." She warns.

"Sorry grandmama."

"Now once you're done packing up that box, come downstairs and bring Hakeem too, so we can have one last family dinner together." She smiles.

"Sure grandmama, I'll get 'Keem"

She walks out of her bedroom and down the hall into Hakeem's room. She's only ever been in her older brother's room only a total of four times. He was one of those people who would get very protective of their belongings and never allowed anyone in his room. She knocked on the door quietly and waited for him to open it.

"Hakeem?" She knocked again.

"Come in."

"'Keem, grandmama wants us downstairs." She said leaning on his door.

He just looked at her and didn't respond.

"Hakeem? C'mon,"

"I'm going to miss you." He said quietly but loud enough for her to hear.

"What?" She questioned.

"You deaf girl? I said I was going to miss you." He said looking up at her.

"I heard what you said, it's just that you never said anything like to me."

"Skye, I'm your older brother. I might not say these kinds of things but I'm always going to love you and I'm really going to miss you." He said.

"I'm gonna miss you too 'Keem."

She went over to his bed and sat down beside him. She then kissed his forehead and hugged him.

"I love you baby sis."

"I love you too." She replied.

"C'mon, let's go see what grandmama got in store for us." He smiled.

They both get up and make their way downstairs to the little kitchen where grandmama was.

"There you are boy! You're always cooped up in that room of yours." She exclaimed.

Grandmama sets the table with her world famous gumbo and corn and Skye knew that this was going to be the last homemade meal she'd be eating in a while.

"Ah, I'm starving." Hakeem said as he started fixing himself a plate.

"Boy! Put that down right now, we have to pray first." Grandmama said taking the plate right out of his hands.

They all sit around the table and join hands in prayers.

"Oh Lord, please bless this food you've put upon us and please bring ease into my baby's life now that she'd be leaving. Amen."

"Amen." They both repeated.

"Now eat."

"Skye,"

"Hmm?"

"I have one piece of advice for you," her brother said, "don't fall in love out there."
