For Kirsty! If you don't have an older sister, just pretend you do, ok? :)

Hope you like! x

You shiver as you tiptoe down the stairs to find the thermostat.

Blindly, you fumble your hand along the wall to find the familiar buttons.

It lights up as you tap the ON button and with a relieved sigh you adjust the temperature, allowing the central heating to begin its job of warming the house.

Hugging your arms around yourself, you nibble your lip as you debate whether or not to venture back upstairs to your bedroom.

The rest of the lights are off, no one else is home.

Your parents are our working (as usual) and your older sister is out partying again (as usual).

And so you’re all alone in this huge, silent, empty house (as usual).

Sighing, you wander into the kitchen and push things around in your cupboard until your hand grasps what you’re looking for.

You navigate the dark kitchen for a spoon, hit the draw shut with your hip and pad back up the stairs with your goodies in your hand.

Your room is the only cheerful part of the house at this time of night, with soft yellow light illuminating the pale purple walls, all your posters and photos grinning out at you.

You kick the door closed behind you and cross the carpet to dive onto your queen size bed, pulling a soft blanket around your shoulders and pulling your laptop closer.

Then you return to your previous activity, watching your favourite TV show, this time accompanied by eating peanut butter straight from the jar.

You love your parents and sister, really you do. You just wish they are home more often.

Sighing, you let your gaze drift around the room, your mouth settling into a slight smile as you let your eyes linger on the goofy photographs of you and your boyfriend, taken a few weeks ago.

It had been the best date ever, and you’d been tempted, so tempted, to say those three little words, but fear had held you back.

That same old fear that had held you back every single time.

Because what if you were wrong in your assumption that he felt the same way? This boy is special, you can’t lose him.

TAP. TAP. TAP.

Startled, you glance at the window and shriek in shock at the grinning face pressed against the glass.

Putting a hand over your racing heart, you abandon your peanut butter and scamper over to open the window to let in your boyfriend.

“Hey, Kirsty!” Ashton grins sweeping you into a big bear hug.

You shiver initially, at the cold trapped in the creases of his coat, but slowly relax into his familiar arms.

He lets go of you all too soon to shut the window.

Then he turns back to you, that great big grin all over his face, showing off his dimples.

“Ashton, what are you doing here?” You ask, confused but happy nonetheless.

He shrugs unashamedly. “You told me no one was gonna be home, so I thought I’d come over.”

“What’s wrong with the front door?”

“Nothing. It’s just not as romantic as your window.” He winks at you and walks over to your bed.

Then you notice the DVD in his hand and smile. “The Lion King?”

“Perfect, right?”

“It’s like you read my mind.”

You end up on sitting on your bed, shoulders pressed against each other with your blanket set across both your shoulders and sharing the jar of peanut butter as you watch The Lion King.

About halfway through the movie you glance at the blonde boy beside you and wish you could say those three little words that fizzled at the tip of your tongue.

Ashton looks at you and smiles softly. “You’re beautiful, you know that?”

“Ash!” You blush, the tips of your ears turning pink. “I’m in fuzzy socks!”

You lift your feet to demonstrate this fact, showing him your stripy fuzzy socks and wiggling your toes.

With a wicked grin, he grabs your foot and tickles it, laughing as you squeal and try to wriggle away from him.

“Ash! Ash! Stop! Please!” You shriek, laughing hysterically.

“Only if you say Ash is the best!” Ash insists.

“Never!”

“Then I’ll never stop tickling you!”

“Fine!” You acquiesce. “Ash is the best!”

“And the coolest drummer ever.”

“And the coolest drummer ever!”

“And that you love him!”

“I…what?” You raise your eyes to Ashton, who has stopped tickling your foot in alarm. “Ashton?”

He drops your foot and looks at you seriously. “I love you, Kirsty.”

Feeling a smile spread over your face, you find the confidence to tell him how you really feel.

“I love you too, Ashton.”
