Setting The Wolf Free - Ch 42

Start from the beginning

To my surprise, a blue, sparkling dome suddenly appears around Yue, and as my Wolves collide with it, they explode, sending out another heat wave. As Fuisuke lands back on the ground, resting on one knee, I feel a huge amount of chakra building up near Yue.

For reasons I don’t really understand, I leap forwards and tackle Fuisuke backwards, just as a large ball of chakra enhanced fire shoots from the trees and crashes into the ground, causing a huge explosion.

As soon as Fuisuke’s back hits the ground, he flips us over, now kneeling over me as chunks of debris fly in all directions, raining down on us and blowing a cloud of dust into the air.

Activating my Katsuryoku to try and find Kyoku, I sense Yue climbing to her feet and racing away, not wanting to have to deal with us after launching that deadly attack. Hopefully the Jonin will transport here and disqualify her, because that was a ferocious attack.

Glancing up, I give Fuisuke a stoic look, seeing his dark eyes narrowed at me. I don’t know what he’s thinking, or what he was thinking when he shielded me, but we’re still contestants in a competition that I want to win.

“Alright Prince Charming” I say dryly, though a smirk finds its way onto my face, “Time to get off.”

As I suddenly flip up and spin around, aiming to kick Fuisuke, he pushes away from me, landing up in a nearby tree. I dust myself off, giving Fuisuke a wary look as he watches me, before deciding to disappear back into the forest.

“Kyoku?” I eventually call, walking towards her presence. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine” her soft voice replies from above me, causing me to tilt my head back. “I just didn’t expect that attack.”

Kyoku leans over the side of the branch she’s sitting in, giving me a strained closed eye smile. Bounding easily up through the branches, I drop down beside Kyoku, sitting on my knees.

“That’s a nasty looking burn” I say, wincing slightly at the red raw skin of Kyoku’s right thigh. “It’s burned right through your clothes. Don’t worry though, burns I can handle! This won’t take too long at all.”

Removing my fingerless gloves, I perform a hand sign, green chakra soon enveloping my hands. Lowering my arms and holding my hands just over Kyoku’s injury, I begin healing the wound. As the burn slowly begins healing, Kyoku closes one eye, no doubt in quite a lot of pain.

“How did she even do that Jutsu?” I wonder out loud, referring to Yue’s attack. “I didn’t expect her to have the chakra for such an attack.”

“I saw her pull out a Spell Tag before” Kyoku informs me quietly, eyes flicking down to look at her wound. “That’s probably how she did it.”

“A Spell Tag?” I ask curiously, having never heard of such a thing. “What’s a Spell Tag?”

“They’re a special kind of weapon” Kyoku explains, resting the back of her head against the bark of the tree we’re in, “And they’re only made in the Hidden Snow Village. They refuse to sell the weapon to anyone outside of the Village, to keep it a secret. Basically, it’s a tag that has some kind of Jutsu sealed into it, and when someone focuses their chakra into the tag, the sealed Jutsu will activate.”

“Wow….” I mutter, raising an eyebrow. “That’s actually pretty cool. It’s almost like magic.”

“Yes” Kyoku smiles at me, feeling a lot more relaxed now that her wound is almost fully healed. “And the best part is, you barely have to infuse any of your chakra into the tag, so using a high level Jutsu won’t require as much chakra as it normally would.”
