The Next Morning
~Justin~
Ever since that run in with that son of bitch at the market I have to admit I’ve been really protective over Serenity and I haven’t let her leave the house. She doesn’t complain about it and she never takes her shit out on me about it, but there are times when I catch her standing my the window watching the world moving and it breaks my heart. I wasn’t gonna let that crazy piece of shit make me and Serenity hermits. Yeah, that mothaf*cker had a few screws loose but he damn sure don’t have anything on me. I wasn’t going to keep Serenity a prisoner any more.
When I found Serenity she was in her room laying on her bed writing in a notebook. The way the sun touched her skin made her look like an angel. I couldn’t help but take a minute to take in her beauty before I said a word.
“Hey..” Serenity startled me out of my thoughts.
“Hey you…” I replied unable to wipe the smile off of my face. As hard as she tried to hide it, I knew she felt something for me. I just wasn’t sure what and I really wasn’t ready to take that route with anyone just yet.
Serenity smiled wide flashing her pearly whites and giggled.
“What’s up?” she inquired.
I made my way over to her bed and sat at the foot of her bed next to her.
“I know we haven’t been out…” I didn’t want to bring up why. “You know…” I nodded implying that she did. “So I was thinking maybe we can go out to the mall…maybe shop or get some food or something.”
Serenity sat up, facing me, her eyes wide in excitement.
“I’d really like that!” her voice sweet and soft.
“Okay… so I’ll meet you in front in about what? Twenty minutes?”
“Twenty minutes for what?” her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“You know… to get ready.”
Serenity laughed, shaking her head. I didn’t know I had said anything funny.
“I’m not that kind of girl Justin…We can head out now.” she said letting lose her wild curls that were tucked neatly into a bun on top of her head. Then getting off of her bed and making her way out of the room
“I wasn’t trying to say anything bad…” I said watching walk out of the room leaving me alone still sitting on her bed.
I sighed letting out a huge breath shaking my head.
“Woman…Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.” I thought to myself.
The day was perfect. It wasn’t extremely hot and the way the sun lit everything around Serenity and I almost felt magical. I would never openly admit that though. Gotta keep my manliness in check. Serenity played music on the ride to the mall. Every now and then I’d look over and catch a glimpse of her facing the window with her eyes shut and a faint smile on her face as she enjoyed the breeze dancing along her skin and through her hair. I realized it wasn’t sun or magic that had me feeling the way I did. It was her. I was falling for Serenity and the truth is that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stop it.
We stopped at every store in the mall. Serenity snuck into a hat store while I was looking for new Supras and she surprised me with a really cool black snap back. I was a little upset she’d went without me but when she surprised me with the hat and I could see the excitement on her face it was hard to stay upset.
“You like it?!” she enthusiastically asked as I tried it on.
“I love it. Thanks Serenity.” I replied placing my palm on her cheek and softly kissing the other.
She sat on the bench next to me putting the Supras back in their boxes and holding them in her lap.
The girl who was helping me had been trying to get my number since I walked in. I didn’t pay her any attention. I just wanted to get my sneakers and then go get something to eat. The sales assistant seductively swayed her way back towards me and I laughed at her desperate attempt to get me to notice her.
“You can just follow me to the cashier and I’ll get you checked out.” the blonde headed sales assistant informed me. She bent down to get the boxes from Serenity’s lap and arched her back, I guess to entice me and I chuckled to myself. Serenity’s eyebrows furrowed in quiet rage. I didn’t want to acknowledge the girl or assume that Serenity was upset because of that so I just motioned with my head for us to follow her.
When we reached the cashier the girl spoke in a breathy tone and kept running her hands through her hair. All of a sudden she started to run her fingers along the collar of her shirt with her head cocked to the side, her eyes seductively taking me in, asking me if I was from Texas. Serenity quickly shut her up.
“You’re tacky…” she spat at the blonde sales assistant.
I was taken aback by her straight forwardness and I’ll admit a little turned on. The sales assistant turned her attention from me to Serenity
“Excuse me?” the sales assistant asked her face contorted in disbelief.
“You heard me…” Serenity stood in front of me. “Is this how you earn commission? Because if it is you’re in the wrong line of work sweetie.” Serenity scoffed.
The sales assistant dramatically gasped and looked at me as if I was supposed to defend her. Serenity stood up straight with her hand on her hip. Waiting for the girl to come at her with something else. When the girl stood in silence Serenity turned to me.
“Get your card and lets go. “ she demanded and pushed past me.
“Yes Ma’am.” I replied unable to hold back my emotions letting a huge smile spread across my face.
