It was a cold, dark night when the shadow of a man flitted by. He appeared to be running from someone. A small pair of eyes watched him; they were too afraid of the dark to sleep. They saw his black coat, his black hair, but most of all, his alarmingly bright blue eyes. The little girl watching him thought that only an angel could have eyes so bright.
The girl was not fazed by this man running by; this sort of thing was common in the city. What was chasing him, however, was not. Instead of someone pursuing the man, like the girl expected to see, a large, monstrous shadow came into view. Terrified, the girl was motionless. This was the shadow of the monster she claimed lived in her closet.
She covered her eyes with her hands, thinking the monster wouldn't be able to see her that way. There was a soft glow, and the girl tentatively peeked through her fingers. The monster's shadow was gone, only the man with the bright blue eyes left standing there. He was leaning against the wall as if the monster was never there. Slowly, the man looked up, and his electric blue eyes met her grey ones. She watched him put a finger to his lips, as if telling her not to say a word about him or the monster. The little girl nodded, and watched the man turn and vanish into the night. The girl lay down in her bed, and drifted off into a deep sleep with a feeling of ease. Little did she know, the man was circling the building, protecting her from all the monsters that formed from her imagination, comforting her and erasing her fear of the dark.
