chapter 3 :

Rohit's POV:

It had been three weeks since I had moved into this city and life was great. Anaya and I went to work together in my car or hers alternatively. We made fairly a good amount of friends and we hang out every now and then. But the only problem was, all our friends were under the impression that Anaya and I were a couple. Anaya had just laughed it off but I couldn't do that at all. I became uncomfortable every time someone called us cute or awwwed us.

It was Anaya's birthday and I had planned an exquisite dinner for her at one of her favourite posh restaurant. Whenever we crossed that place on road she would just sigh and say, "I wish I could have a grand rich meal there" and every single time, I would be tempted to take her in but I wanted to have a special occasion to take her and let her have her meal. And there was no other day that was as perfect as her birthday. I asked her to stay at home that day quoting, "you have to rest at least on your birthday" truth to be said, Anaya was a very hard working girl. I was adamant that she had her day off plus that gave me my chance to get her have her surprise.

It was 12 AM and I was in the front of her door with her favourite blueberry cake in hand. Yes, I knew that also. She did not open the door and so I had to bang on it. "Open Anaya, I have something for you" I said and after a few minutes I heard someone cursing on the other side of the door and I couldn't help but chuckle. Right when she clicked the lock of the door, I lit the candle and the moment she opened the door, the candle started singing happy birthday. Her eyes widened and she jumped and hugged me and I had to balance her and the cake from falling down. "Roh, this is great! How did you know that today is my birthday?" she asked me and I could see tears glistening in her eyes and her brilliant and beautiful smile that garnished her face in the candle light.

"You didn't leave even a single detail out Anaya. Don't you remember?" I asked her while grinning and she smiled back. "You remember all that?" she asked and her voice was filled with an emotion that I couldn't fairly recognize. I nodded my head and she pulled me into a hug. I stayed still for sometime in order to compose myself so that I don't do or say something that I would regret. She placed her chin on my shoulder and I heard her sniff. I knew she must be missing all those people at home and her "boyfriend" I couldn't help but grunt when I thought of him. I hugged her and patted her shoulders. She pulled back and looked at me. "Thank you Roh" she said and I smiled.

I placed the cake in front of her and she began cutting it. She fed me a piece of it and I did the same. She asked me to stay for coffee but I asked her to get to bed and quickly returned back home leaving behind a confused Anaya because I had to prepare for her surprise. In the morning, it was almost 11 AM when Anaya woke up much to my delight. We decided to go for a movie after lunch and we went to the steam room for lunch and then to the theatre. Throughout the movie, I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was breathtakingly beautiful. She was simple and perfect. I didn't remember a single scene from the movie. As we walked out the theatre, all I could think of was how her eyes twinkled when she smiled and the way her fingers played with her hair and the way her eyes reflected all her thoughts and emotions. I knew I had to stop it and move away from her but I let my emotions consume me. I stopped her placing my hands on her shoulder. "Anaya?" I called her. "Hmmm?" she responded. "Here" I replied putting a beautifully wrapped box in her hand. Her eyes widened before she opened the wrapped box and it revealed a beautiful red and silver bracelet. The stones sparkled and I could see her smile beneath the hair which now hid her beautiful face. She looked up and grinned at me. "Thank you Roh" she said and hugged me again. But time I didn't hug her back. She pulled away and we began to make our way towards my car. I started my way to the restaurant and as I pulled into the gate, her eyes widened, "Roh? Where? Wha-?" she asked. "Surprise surprise" I grinned and she grinned back. I rushed to her door and opened it for her. We made our way to her dream restaurant and all the time we spent there, she was in aww. She kept thanking me continuously and it made me utterly uncomfortable.

After a stomach filling dinner, we drove home and after a few minutes, I pulled into the parking and turned the engine off. She smiled at me again and opened the door. I went to the other side and stood in front of her with my hands shoved inside my pocket. She looked up at me but this time I saw something different in her eyes. She stepped forward and hugged me. I hugged her back, letting my emotions consume me for the second time that day. She pulled back slightly but did not pull away. Her hands were still on my shoulders and my hands on her waist. "Rohit" she breathed and I began leaning in. But I was interrupted by someone and I wanted to kill him till the last piece of him suffered. "There you are" I heard a new voice. Her eyes widened and I saw a look of confusion and something else that I couldn't really understand in her eyes. She turned around and I spotted a guy standing a good distance away from us. "Rahul?" she asked with a hint of surprise in her voice. She looked at me and him and then walked towards him.

I understood that the moment had come and gone. I sighed and made my way up the stairs totally ignoring the two of them. I closed the door and gave out a breath I didn't know I was holding. If it had not been for Rahul we would have? I banged my fists against the wall in frustration. I knew I had to stay away. But I might not be able to do it and also Anaya wouldn't let me move away. With so much confusion and frustration, I tossed and turned throughout the night. I was falling hard and I wanted to stop myself from doing anything that will make things worse. Finally I closed my eyes and drifted to sleep almost by dawn.
