Integra's POV

I looked at the boy that stood at the foot of my bed. "Do the shadows not scare you?" I asked, referring to the strange figures that cast their shadows against the windows of the mansion every full moon. He shook his head, glancing at me once before returning his gaze to the ground. "Do they scare you?" He repeated, and I began to shake my head out of habit to my father, but I realized I was dreadfully wrong. The deformed figures sent shivers down my spine, and even though they never did anything but move about the walls, I hated them. Finally, I nodded. "They frighten me." I said reluctantly. The boy walked to the side of my bed, and sat next to me, pulling his knees to his chest and staring at the wall opposite us. "I'll protect you." He said quietly, not looking over. "Always." I curled up next to him, and ended up falling asleep on his lap. When I awoke, I was rudely reminded of my aching back and missing eye. I was only small, but I couldn't believe I had forgotten that memory until now. I sat up, about to ring Walter, when I remember that he's gone. And so is Alucard. Damn, why does this aching feeling always wiggle its way into my chest whenever I think about that monster? I keep being told to move on, that Alucard is dead, but I have faith in him. He made me a promise, and I intend to make sure that he keeps it.
