Chapter 3

I sped as fast as I can because the guy was acting crazy. Maybe they had a bet among themselves involving me. Yes! That must be the case. 

I hurried back home to get ready. Today Brian was taking me and Ma out to dinner. He said dress classy. When I returned home, Ma was all over the place. 

'Ma, what are you doing? Stop and take a deep breath. Now tell me what's going on?' 

'I don't have a dress.' If she doesn't have dresses, then no one does. I went to her room to take a look at all her clothes. After searching, I came up with the perfect dress. It was a black knee length dress with a deep back.  

'Ma wears this one.' 'Oh! Thank you baby and dress nice.' She said the last part in a no nonsense tone. Ugh! I hate wearing a dress.  

I rummaged my wardrobe to find the perfect dress. Ma loves wearing dresses and when she buys one for herself; she buys one for me too. I have not worn most of the dresses so almost all of them have tags on them. 

I searched and searched and at last found the perfect dress. It was a cream colored dress with a v neckline. Not deep but not too high either. It showed a bit amount of my assets. The dress was up to my mid-thigh with a fitting form. I paired it with cream heels. I added a bit of make up and I was ready. Now I looked classy.  

Night time came and so did Brian. He was wearing a black suit looking much like a lawyer. He brought mom red roses and me a chain with a locket which he made me wear right then. It was beautiful with a ruby in the locket.  

I have never seen Ma look so happy. Seeing her this happy made me happy. I went and stood near the car trying to give them both privacy. After talking some time they started making out which was utterly gross. 'Daughter in here guys!' I said loudly waving my hands dramatically in the air. 

'Sorry Nev.' Brain said and Ma was a deep shade of red. 'Stop blushing guys, you both are embarrising me.' Brian chuckled and led us to the car. Ma and Brian sat in the front while me in the back. 

We reached the restaurant after some time. The whole way Brian was holding Ma's hand and giving her sweet smiles during traffic jams. The restaurant was beautiful! I looked at Ma and her eyes said the same thing.  

'A table under Walter.' The waitress led us to a table in one corner. To my surprise and dislike Easton was sitting with some girl and her family. I knew it was her family because I knew Peter and his mom was no more. I felt a pain in the heart at seeing him smiling with some other girl. I had no idea where this pain came from. I ignored it and concentrated on food. The bad things about these high class places is that you pay high prices for so less food.  

I didn't give much thought to the price since I knew that Brian was loaded and could afford this. I ordered with shrimps. When the food arrived, it was just as I excepted it to be. It had a bit of meat and remaning was just dressing of leaves. I frowned. Looking at my frown, Brian got worried.  

'Is the food bad?' 

'Where is the food dude? There is only leaves.' Brian shook his head and went back to eating his food. I guess that was childish, but I was hungry and there was hardly any food in front of me. I finished the food fast and went to the washroom. There standing was the girl with Easton. She was real pretty with blonde hair and hazel eyes. The girl turned to me and smiled. Not giving much thought I smiled.  

'You are Neveah right?' How did the girl know my name? 

'Yes. Do I know you?' 

'Oh no. I have heard about you. You are pretty famous in your school.'

'Thank you?' it sounded more like a question, 'I should leave, Nice meeting you.' I didn't wait for her to reply and came out.  

The sight outside was more painful. Standing near our table were the couple and Easton. 'There she is.' I heard Brian's voice. I went near him and stood. Seeing me Easton gave me a huge smile. I was sure that his jaw will tear if his smile gets any wider. 'Hello Neveah such a pleasant surprise to meet you.' This was not the Easton, the head jock. He was someone else. I knew I should keep my mouth shut nut I just couldn't help it. 

'It is really pleasant for you to see me?' I questioned with a frown on my face. His face fell and a small, very very small part of me felt guilty. He quickly masked his face into an expressionless mask and gave a small smile. 'Of course Neveah.' He wasn't lying. Since when did these brainless jocks start to like me?  

'Okay Mr.Tate, we got to leave. See you sometime soon.' The other man and Brian spoke for some more time and then all of us left. We reached home and none of us got out. 

'So,' Ma began with a nervous smile on her face. I knew where this was going. 'Ma if you wanna go with Brian to his house, please do so. It's okay, I can manage one night.' It was better to send them than hear the sounds throughout the night.  

'Okay but you will call me if there is any emergency or if you need anything.'  

'Yes mother.' I saluted her. I got out of the car. They waited till I had opened the door. I turned back and called out to them standing on the doorstep, 'Be careful Ma.' The color she turned was more of purple than red. I love that woman.  

And at last she was gone and I had the house alone to myself.
