Audrey woke up and looked at her cast again. She still had to wear a sling because the cast was too heavy. Audrey lay in her bed and thought about Aaron texting her yesterday, and remembered that she was sent a text right before she fell asleep. Audrey sat up at grabbed her phone from the nightstand beside her bed.
Aaron: Hey, do you mind meeting me by my locker at school? I have something to show you.
OK, so Aaron had a surprise for Audrey and she didn't even know which locker his was.
Me: which locker is yours?
Audrey got up to get dressed and her phone beeped. She checked her phone again and this time it was Aaron and Jessica. Audrey decided to check Aaron's message first.
Aaron: locker # 16
Me: ok.
Me: when
Aaron: uh, after ur 1st class? i shouldn't be in class then.
Me: ok
Audrey got a shower ready and realized she couldn't get her cast wet. She was about to get dressed when she noticed a plastic sleeve she could out on and tie right above her cast. Audrey put it on and got in the shower. She tried scrubbing her hair, but she needed to move her wrist for that, so she just used her left hand. It took much longer. When Audrey was done showering she got dressed and checked her phone again. Jessica must have deleted the message she sent because it was gone. Aaron had replied, though.
Aaron: >:)
OK, that was kinda scary, what was a that about?
Me: ????
Aaron: >:D
Me: ok nm
Audrey put on her sling and went upstairs for breakfast. She tried to eat her cereal but ended up using her left hand because it got too difficult. She boarded the bus and as she sat down everyone stared at her. Audrey felt herself blush and sat next to Jessica.
"Ouch! I am sorry you got hurt." Jessica said.
"Oh, its OK. It wasn't your fault anyway." Audrey replied.
They arrived at the the school and got off the bus, and even MORE kids started to look Audrey's way. Audrey entered her first class and sat down. The first class was history, and today they didn't have to take notes. Instead, they just watched a movie about the Civil War. After class, Audrey went over to locker number 16, just like Aaron had said, or rather, texted. Audrey was a little nervous as she approached Aaron. Who wouldn't be after a text like the last one? Aaron was smiling and Audrey went up to him.
"So, what's the surprise?" Audrey asked. Aaron held up a sharpie marker, and took off the cap. Audrey realized what he was doing and pulled her arm away.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you, like Alannah did." Aaron said. Audrey turned back towards him and he gently moved Audrey's arm out of the sling and started writing on her cast.
I hope you heal soon!
-Aaron
Audrey smiled as Aaron put her arm back in the sling.
"I'd better go, my next class is starting soon." Audrey said. Aaron nodded and put the marker in his pocket.
"I'll text you after school" he said. Audrey came into class and got her notes out and tried to pick up her pencil. It wasn't working. She tried again. Still didn't work, because she had a sling on. Well, it probably wouldn't work even without the sling, because her arm was in a cast. Audrey raised her left hand.
"Mrs. Beckham? I can't write." Audrey said. Mrs. Beckham looked at Audrey.
"I will teach you to write left handed. Don't do any assignments nor notes until you've mastered it. Start practicing now." Mrs. Beckham said. Left handed! How about with my feet? Audrey thought. She started practicing. By the end of class, Audrey could sort of write her a's, b's, and c's, but not very well. Audrey went to P.E. class, but they told her to get out, nicely, because she couldn't do anything. Audrey was free to roam until lunch. Eighth grade classes had just ended and Audrey saw Aaron walking down the hall.
"Um, aren't you supposed to be in P.E.?" Aaron asked, then he looked horrified. "I'm sorry Audrey I forgot and I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything I'm just sorry!" He burst.
"Its OK, I'm not offended or hurt." Audrey said. Aaron looked relieved.
"So, I'm a tutor now. The principal asked me to be because some kids need help or will soon." Aaron said.
"That's cool." Audrey said. "I have to learn to write left handed."
