~Chapter nineteen~ Warning: Heartbreak may lead to collapsing

Start from the beginning

"Well let's go then. I know a way to get inside. Undetected." Lakin smirked and started leading the way around the fence.

We approached a small hole inside the wall that surrounded the area and one by one we piled through it. I went last, seeing as it would be my fault if someone got caught from behind. When we reached the other side, we immediately crouched behind a piece of fallen stone.

Demons were everywhere. There had to be at least thirty of them in this area. Who knows how many could be inside.

"Alright. Here's the plan. I'll be the distraction. You guys make your way inside." Caspian stared at Lakin as if he's lost his mind.

"Are you crazy? They'll notice us! You can't distract all of them." He whisper yelled to Lakin.

"He's right! I mean, how do you expect to distract them anyways?" Cassius asked a question we all wanted to know.

Lakin simply smiled a wolf grin and stood up straight.

"Like this..." And with that, he sprinted out into the open.

"LUCIFER SUCKS!" Our eyes widened.

Seriously? What happened to getting in undetected? Thirty pairs of eyes landed on Lakin and at that moment I knew he was in trouble.

'Do not. I repeat DO NOT. Help me Rizoel. Do you understand me?' Lakin's voice came busting through my thoughts.

I hated when he gave me orders like this. I had to listen to him and he knew that.

Seconds after he said that, all havoc broke loose. The demons were on him in seconds and we took off for the doors. None of the demons noticed us which I was grateful for. Damn it Lakin. You devil you.

As soon as we reached the doors, my sister skipped over to it and laid her hand on its surface. She whispered a few incoherent words and the door opened slowly.

Chapin smiled at Cilix and pulled him inside behind her.

She could get into any door she wished by the touch of her fingers. That means no privacy on my part at home. That is, unless she knocks first. Which she doesn't. She's been opening doors ever since we were little.

All angels have some sort of power. We don't usually use our powers unless absolutely necessary but Chapin likes to use hers excessively. I unfortunately haven't figured out my power yet.

"There doesn't seem to be any guards around." Jacques used his power of location to scan out the area.

"Where is the target?" Caspian talked in code names and I rolled my eyes.

Jacques focused on the empty corridor for awhile and I started to get fidgety. After an agonizing few minutes he took off down the hall without a word. We all dashed after him. I was more than ready to have Annabel with me again. I couldn't wait any longer.

We arrived in front of huge doors.

'She's behind this door.' Jacques mind linked everyone and we all nodded in understanding.

I scanned the area and realized how easy it was to get here. Something's not right. This has to be a trap. But no matter how long I stood there and waited for the worst, nothing happened. I felt the mate pull through the doors and I couldn't stand there any longer. I slammed the doors opened and my eyes instantly went to Annabel's.

Except, they weren't Annabel's. It was her, I knew that much. But her eyes weren't the beautiful purple they usually were. They were bright red.

"Annabel?" She stood there indifferent with Carlos holding her at his side.

He smirked and I took notice that the devil himself was no where to be found. It was slightly worrisome, and I thought it would be a problem, until I heard someone far worse speak.

"Hello Rizzy. Nice to see you again." I knew that voice.

"Mother?" My eyes shifted to hers.

"I thought you we-"

"Dead? Yes. It would appear so wouldn't it? But angels can't die, Rizoel. You of all people should know that." Her eyes were gleaming evilly.

She was no angel.

"Mother... What happened?" Chapin's light voice broke the utter silence that filled the room for the longest time.

"Im not your mother you stupid girl. Remember that night Annabel's parents got into a car crash? You all thought your father and I died. You thought the demons killed us. Oh how wrong you were. They did kill your father, but...." She signaled for us to finish her thoughts.

Chapin's eyes filled with tears and Cilix comforted her as much as he could. I looked at her with sympathy, not quite understanding who her mother was.

"No..." Realization dawned on me.

The others must have realized it too, because they all looked as gobsmacked as I was.

"You..." She nodded her head and cackled.

"I caused Annabel's dear mother's death. I knew she was part of the prophecy. I knew you were too. But I thought Annabel was in the car with them. SHE WASN'T! And now it doesn't matter anymore. I have her right where I want her." Her evil eyes settled on Annabel.

Annabel stared back as if in a trance and seconds later she walked down so she stood in front of me.

"Hello Rizoel." She didn't seem... right.
"Annabel? Are you ok? We need to get you home. Come on." She shook her head and stepped back.

"I am home. You silly angel. Carlos is my home now. I never loved you." My heart was literally ripped out.

I fell to the floor and all that the others could do was stare in helplessness. They couldn't do anything for a broken heart.

"Y-you b-b-brainwashed h-her." There was no way she would say such a thing.

My mother walked over until she was inches from me and squatted to my level on the floor.

"Oh really? Prove it." Annabel walked back up to Carlos and snuggled into his side.

The more I saw, the more pain I felt. I lost her...

"Bel..." I managed to croak out.

She blinked a few times. Her eyes went from purple, to red, to purple again.

"Riz..." It came out as a little whisper but I heard it.

She started to breathe heavier and a sharp pain shot through my chest. Then just like that, she collapsed.
