"We are gathered here today to remember and celebrate the life of Sam. Even though he didn't live long and in the end spent two years of his life in a dungeon... It was a great life. He was a loyal companion and a great friend, and it's... it's terrible he didn't live longer. May I ask John, his closest friend to say a few words?"
After the fight against the dark mages, John had thought it a good idea to have a funeral for Sam, for he at least deserved that much. They had left his body back in the courtyard in all the rush and panic to get out, but they had still built him a grave to remember him. John cleared his throat.
"Sam, will always be remembered. Not just as a friend. It's a sad moment knowing that he finally was free, and it was all taken away from us. I will never forgive his killer. However, this day is not about hate or revenge, and neither is any other. Today we will not mourn his death, but we will celebrate his life. I will now say a few words to Sam personally."
John paused and turned to the grave they had dug for their friend.
"Thank you, just for being there. I never gave up on you when you were locked up. And you never gave up on me. I couldn't ask for anymore. Thank you for everything, and I wish you the best in your next life. I forever promise to not forget you, or this day, or any other day you might have been involved in. I am also sorry for blocking the memory of you out of my life and I swear I will never do it again. Thank you, those are the two most important words in this message. Thank... you... Thank you."
John turned and looked at everybody's faces. It wasn't just him who was crying. Sam had been a close friend. Even if they only knew him for a short time.
Cooper looked up at John. "He was too young to die."
John shook his head as he walked back to his house. "You're never too young to die."
