He had become cynical, and he had one goal—to hurt Reini as much as possible.
Now that Reini was gone, Samuel didn’t know what to feel or do anymore. He felt dizzy, feeling the extreme heartache he did. The many consequences of his many actions were in front of him, and he didn’t know what to do anymore. He was vaguely aware that his hands were shaking, that he was as pale as a ghost, but he found that he didn’t care.
They needed to find Reini as soon as possible, or he would lose his mind. He would lose his mind once the what-ifs made their way to him again.
Amrie breathed in deep, looking up at the pale faces of Reini’s friends. “This morning, Senior Agent Van Kamp received this from an unknown source, though we suspect it comes from The Alliance.”
A click of the remote before her, and a picture of Eena’s crime scene appeared on the screen before them.
“This picture might have been taken from the police, so this isn’t our main concern. Our main concerns are the picture of Senior Agent Reini Saunders who, as you may know, have been missing for two weeks now, and the threat. We have been looking for Miss Saunders, but we have not been lucky.”
Amrie pressed a button on the remote, and the picture of Reini appeared on the screen. “We have analyzed the photo and found that this particular convenience store is in Nevada. We have spoken with the cashier on duty at the time she went there and found out that she bought hair dye and articles of clothing such as slippers, and a hat. We have reason to believe that Miss Saunders bought these because she doesn’t want to be found, but these are now our stepping stones to finally finding her.”
Samuel reminded himself to breathe in deep, and smiled weakly when Tiffany held his hand and squeezed it.
A picture of the threat printed out in Greg’s computer appeared on the screen. “This printed after the two pictures. Right now, we have Tech, being led by Charles, analyzing both Greg’s laptop and printer to figure out who connected to the network. The message is also being analyzed.”
Amrie looked at Samuel, at his blank stare on the screen before them. “Right now, we don’t have any reason to believe that Reini is in the hands of The Alliance. We do have to find her before they do, though.”
Samuel looked at Amrie, at the sincere expression she wanted him to see, and nodded curtly. There wasn’t anything he could do anyway, was there?
Amrie nodded, mostly to herself, and spoke in a clear voice. “You are dismissed.”
She stood up and walked out of the room, followed by Greg, and then Joshua. One by one, the others filed out of the room until Samuel was the only one left seated at the table.
With a weary sigh, Samuel stood up and left the room.
Reini was, by no means, what people would consider filthy rich. She was well-off, yes, but she wasn’t rich.
Alright, she might be slightly rich.
Okay, she was very rich.
Her parents, being surgeons, had been well-off even before they married each other, and when they married, their social class only managed to get higher with the amount of wealth they had. Reini had been an only child, and so, she had been given anything she wanted—within good reason—when she was younger. Gregory and Sylvia Saunders didn’t want their only daughter to be a spoiled brat, so they taught her the values of good, honest work and the results she would reap once she finished it when she was still young.
All those years as a lawyer in one of the biggest law firms in Los Angeles only made her richer. She wasn’t really the type to just spend money for nothing, so she managed to make herself a big, fat nest egg with the job she had.
