Chapter 17: 'You've only just started Emma'
The following morning I smiled, as I opened my eyes to the sounds of birds tweeting outside my bedroom window. I looked to my door expecting to see Tyler standing there like normal, but instead I found Mayson's equally bright blue eyes staring back at me.
Sighing overdramatically, I rolled my eyes at him slowly getting up out of the comfortable bed, walking out past Mayson, pushing slightly as I walked past him. I didn't quite know why Mayson and I didn't get on as much, maybe because he has more mood changes that a fucking pregnant woman. Out of all the boys Mayson was by far the most confusing, one minute he was a dick, the next he was trying to play the part of a protective older brother. And I couldn't quite tell where I stood with him, if I was just some girl living with him or if he actually saw me as a little sister that he had to take care of.
Slowly I walked towards the bathroom, looking up I spotted Jacob at the other end of the corridor, he was in his pajamas still and was walking towards the bathroom. Glaring slightly I kept my eyes locked on him, as I picked up my speed walking to the bathroom. Soon I was running and so was he, trying to see who could get to the bathroom first.
I knew for a fact that today I didn't want to be the poor, unfortunate soul waiting for an hour for Jacob to come out of the bathroom. It always used to be him, I knew not to underestimate the speed of an eleven year old. Smirking slightly, I walked inside of the bathroom, feeling oddly proud of myself as I shut the door in Jacob's face. Sighing slightly, I looked at my reflection in the mirror, slowly but surely I was starting to like this new life.
Smiling, I walked down the stairs a slight skip in my step, "Good morning," I said in a sing song voice, taking an apple of the dining table kissing Luke's cheek as he giggled looking at me. I was actually starting to warm up to him, which was something I never thought I would. Kids usually hate me. Sandy smiled looking at me, "Someone's in a good mood," she said laughing at me. It was true I was in a good mood, but there were so many possible reasons why I couldn't pick just one. I giggled nodding looking at Sandy,
"Correct I am." I said smiling, picking up my bag walking out of the house, not waiting for the boys. As I walked out of the house I saw Alicia walking up the road, I smiled running to catch up with her. "Hey Hey," I said looking at her, she smiled rolling her eyes looking at me, "Hello Emma," she said smiling, shaking her head slightly looking down at her phone.
We walked on to the school campus, and I smiled looking around at everyone, I've started to learn a few more people's names, so I could name most of the faces around me. With Alicia and Alec we all started slowly walking towards my next class. I smiled talking with Alec and Alicia as we waited outside the classroom, when I felt someone wrap their arms around my waist, I smirked looking at Alicia, who was standing beside me, already knowing who it was.
Rolling my eyes I turned to face a smirking Leo, as Alicia and Alec turned to talk to each other. "Why hello there Mr. Player," I said smirking looking up at him. He grinned looking down at me, "Hello beautiful." I smiled slightly, rolling my eyes shaking my head. Leo smiled back at me, moving closer to me, I smirked leaning back looking at him, "Leo! You're in school," I said winking, Leo chuckled shaking his head. I smiled taking a deep breath as he walked away slowly. I had goosebumps, what was happening to me?
The lunch bell rang, and automatically there was a wave of people filling up the hallways, like if you were in a river with a strong current, it was impossible to go against the crowd. I sighed deeply remembering where Tyler told me to meet him for my lesson. I bit my lip nervously as I walked into the library, there was only a couple people there, quickly finishing last minute homework or revising for a test. They all looked up at me for a brief second as I walked through the door before looking back down at their work. I played with my fingers slightly as I walked further into the library seeing Tyler looking down at a book on the desk, with a stack of coloured books to the side of him. I stood next to him clearing my throat quietly, but loud enough to get Tyler's attention. I felt the nerves kick in as Tyler looked up at me, but his smile gave me a reassuring smile.
Slowly I sat down in the seat opposite him, waiting for a couple of minutes playing with my fingers not wanting to look up away from them. "When are we going to start?" I asked impatiently, wanting to get it over and done with. Tyler half smiled looking up at me, "Emma we have to wait for the other person I was telling you about," he said. I groaned remembering what he said about only telling one other person. I sighed nodding sinking back in my seat, when I heard the sound of the door opening again. Quickly, I turned to look at the boy in the doorway, wanting to know who it was. I sighed immediately recognising the boy, it was Cole, one of the Leo gang. I groaned turning to face Tyler again, "Please tell me you didn't..." I was cut off by Cole walking over to us,
"Hello Emma, I'm here to teach you how to read," he said smiling, sitting down next to me. I groaned leaning back my question being answered.
Tyler smiled looking at me as I bit my lip, Cole smiled getting out some sheets that he had obviously printed off the net, getting me to go through all of the sounds and letters. Tyler smiled watching me, and I smiled slightly looking up at him, before class was about to start Cole smiled and he got a book placing it out in front of me asking me to read it to him. I looked up at Tyler and Cole, "Is this some joke?" I asked, Cole shook his head looking at me. "You can do it I bet you, you know how to say the words reading won't be as hard." He said, I groaned looking down at the book, slowly steadying my breathing and reading it out slowly, cursing every time I made the slightest mistake. Tyler looked at me sighing, "Calm down Emma, take your time." I slowly looked at him, and carried on. Thinking about how no one had cared about this as much as TYler does, no one cares about me as much as these boys do, not even my own parents. I sighed reading through the book, biting my lip looking up at Tyler who had a smile spread across his face. I smiled running up hugging him tightly, and I felt him wrap his arms around me, "Thank you," I said quietly looking at him. Tyler chuckled at me "You've only just started Emma,"
