The CoDas: Reboot [By Hex]

Chapter 8 : Resolution

"CoDa...?" I gave a surprised expression to realize there are other people who are as clueless as I am.

We passed by these sparring rooms and turned to another hallway, I saw an open door at the end of it and assumed that was the meeting room. Emily stood by the door as she told me to enter and sit down. I looked into the room to see a bunch of people varying from age and size, all sitting in their chairs facing a podium. 

There was an awkward silence as I entered, some of the more charismatic and extroverted people greeted me, I returned the greetings as I sat down by one of the empty chairs.

"Welcome, newly born CoDas, to Color Lens. You are right now in an invisible world that no normal human can see. My name is Emily Vavlad PsyFlare, I am, like you, part of a species known as the Colorful Dragonflies AKA CoDas for short. Also, please save your questions for later after I have explained everything."

Slight murmurs and whispers filled the air as Emily paused in her speech. She rolled her eyes a little then inhaled and spoke once more, "I'll be blunt, you all have died."

There weren't any whispers anymore, just silence. I didn't believe it myself, I died?

Someone in the crowd spoke out, "You're joking, right?"

"This is not a joke. I'm not impressed by the fact that you all even had the guts to speak when I have already said to keep the questions for after I had explained everything." Emily paused, having a serious expression, the crowd went silent as she took a deep breath before continuing, "Like I said, you all died and were reborn into a Colorful Dragonfly. This happened while you were experiencing a phenomenon known as the 'Awakening', it is the dream that you all had. It's when a chosen human dies while dreaming and becomes reborn by connecting with a spirit. You will learn more about this IF you choose to walk the path of a CoDa."

The lights turn off as a holographic image of a similar creature than the one I saw in my dream show up on the board behind her. Many gave slight gasps or mumbles as she speaks.

"Now, I'm pretty sure that you have seen creatures like this in your Awakening, your dream. These are known as Colorless and they have been our enemy for centuries. They are ruthless, tainted, menacing and fearsome species that exist in our world. They have been around you all your life to this day, they might even be the reason for your wrongdoings if you have ever done so in the past. They have been the cause of many wars and corruption and they were at their highest strength during the Second Dark Age and World War 2,  many of our kind have fought for the survival of the human race as well as our own."

She paused and looked at everyone in the crowd. "Alright, good, no one has spoken, I am officially impressed. Thanks for not being so annoying like the rest of the newbies who came before you". She smirked a little as she continued, "Anyways, the second most likely question you all are wondering is 'Why do we all have symbols on the back of our left hand?' Well, to put it in simple terms, it's what identifies you as a CoDa and allows you to use Xorlaz."

I gave a confused look, "Xorlaz?" I mumbled, her eyes widened as she seemed to have forgotten something.

"Oh, right, excuse me. I didn't tell you all before but we all have these supernatural abilities known as Xorlaz. Don't ask me why it's named that way, we just have to deal with it, you can learn more about that as well if you choose the path of a CoDa. So yeah, I'll get to the main point of this speech then. You all have two choices, You could go back to your normal human life and forget that this ever happened or you could join the CoDas and fight for the sake of humanity."

"I'll tell you this now, living the life as a CoDa will be harsh and dangerous but we all were chosen for a reason, and that is to bring the world into peace and harmony. There will be wars, there will be battles, but your bravery and strength will not be in vain."

"Although you still have about a month till you can change your decisions, you have to make a choice for now so we know which one of you would like to experience what it's like to be a CoDa. Think of it as one month trial to get to know the ropes. Choose wisely."

I sat there, thinking over and over in my head. Should I do it, or not? Everyone else in the room began to think about whether or not they should join. They know the consequences now and that their life won't be the same. Still, no one has said anything about joining or leaving.

My thoughts began to self-reflect at that moment. I had always lived a life where there was no excitement, there was no freedom, there was no purpose. Ever since I got that dream, ever since I held that gun and fought back. I honestly felt thrilled, even on the brink of death. It's crazy that I would think that way but then again, maybe I was chosen because I was crazy enough to have that type of personality.

After a while, I felt-no-I knew that I wouldn't be satisfied if I turned down this offer. I was not going to choose a life where I'd graduate from school, get a job, get married and died old without having anything special happen. No-no-no, I was going to live my life knowing that I had an impact on the world, back then, I was confident enough to think that way. And let's be real here, Who wouldn't want to leave a positive impact on the world and be thrilled while doing so? I didn't know whether the others had the same thought process or ideology as me but I'm a type of person who is a thrill seeker and this was an amazing opportunity.

However, there was more to my reasoning than just seeking thrill but I want to explain that later.

I grinned as I abruptly stood up from my seat. I thought to myself, This was my final choice-Well, technically not but still-,  this is my resolution. I looked at Emily as did she. Everyone became silent as they looked over at me, no one had made a choice yet so I was the first to do so. 

I inhaled and closed my eyes and I shouted, "I choose to live my life as a CoDa and fight for humanity!"

I hope you liked this chapter, it's probably another chapter that I was most looking forward to publishing.

Next chapter is a Lore and Lesson chapter, basically, a chapter which talks a little bit about the world of CoDas and how it works.
