So I was in this thread where the OP (Original Poster/thread starter) was offering her time to find gifs for the lazy. Simple, right? Same thing as someone who looks for images. However, some people started to argue that she shouldn't be asking for a payment just to look for these, which I DO agree.

But OP's payment isn't a big deal. She ain't asking for votes, comments nor MONEY. She was asking for the requester to look at her book. I asked her what she meant, like comment/read etc?

She replied "when i say i look at my story, it can mean anything you want it to mean. reading, commenting, just simply LOOKING at it. that's all i ask, its really not that serious."

To me, I think that's fair and not a big deal. For all I know, I can just simply give her book a view count?

Now, the opposites opinionated people voiced themselves out.

"Why would someone want to do a payment for a gif they can just simply find themselves? And why would you need to put examples up?" - John (fake name)

"I hate to be that person but can I say it is a big deal because gifs aren't something you make in a couple of second. The more affects and transitions and text and frame rate editing the longer they take to make. Plus if you find them on tumblr there is a limit for the size of a gif and it takes even longer to edit out frames to keep it below the size. Asking for a payment is rude because you didn't make them, they are not in any ways easy to make, they could be copyrighted but I'm sure you aren't checking for that, some people would like credit for the hours they spent on making one gif." - Sojin (fake name)

After Sojin's comment... it kind of became a heated argument.

Here were the replies:

"but then we use pictures and pngs and psds not made by us without giving credit for our covers dont we? and have picture threads. unless someone calls you out and tells you to remove it because they made i dont see the problem?" - Nina (fake name)

"what about the thousands of pictures people use when making covers? pretty sure most of those are copyrighted yet i don't see people throwing a complete bitch fit. i don't see how asking for a SIMPLE payment is rude, it's a favor for a favor. im taking my time to search for a gif that will perfectly match your story, all im asking is that you take look at mine. at the end of the day, if you don't like it, just dont request. simple" - OP

Basically it turned into a copyright issues and crediting argument.

I feel looking for pictures/gifs/whatever shouldn't be a big deal if someone asked for a simple payment as taking a look at a book. It's very vague form of payment.

What do you think?

Should OP asked for that kind of payment?

Do you agree or disagree with Sojin and John?

Did you ever used another person's service to look for images etc for you?
