How long had they been falling for? Seconds, minutes, hours, days even? Only the archangels and the seraphims would have known the answer as the winner continued to fall deeper and deeper into their fate below. The wind was loud in their ears as they looked up at the light blue sky, filled with fluffy clouds that became harder and harder to make out as they fell. The sky melted into magenta, quickly deepening into a dark crimson red that only got darker the lower they got.
The poor soul was horrified as they felt a wave of heat forming underneath their back, wings flapping frantically as a means of escape from their incoming fate. Time seemed to be slowing down as the angel continued to fall deeper. Soon getting swallowed by the jaws of hell, welcoming the poor angel with open claws. To the sinners below, a winner was like gold.
CURRENT POV: READER
As you continued to fall your hair got in the way of your clouded vision. Another annoyance because of the tears that had started to spill down your cheeks, from glossy eyes you were given for leading a life without sin. The memory of being forced onto your knees flashed through your mind rapidly, your wings clipped and body thrown off the edge of the clouds into the depths below. Who...who had thrown you off the heavens in the first place? It was pointless trying to decipher that mystery.
What had you even done to deserve this fate? You had done everything right in life, living it to the fullest without any sins, yet somehow even when you'd ended up in Heaven you'd gotten cast into the pits below to suffer the same fate as the sinners who resided in it. The memory of your first moments in Heaven flashed quickly through your mind with the thought.
"Where am I?!" You cried out, standing at the gates of Heaven with your hands shaking and a frazzled, scared expression plastered onto your face. Your skin was slightly grey, shiny like a gem that glimmered in the sunlight.
"Welcome to Heaven!" The Watcher of the Gate cheered with open arms as he stood on his pedestal. Sitting on top of it was a book with a list of names, from what you could gather, flipped open to a random page. "Can I get your name please?" Saint Peter asked as you looked around at your surroundings.
"I..M-My name..?" You whispered, as you raised your head to finally meet Peter's gaze, quickly glancing down at your hands before pausing. "Y/N...My name is Y/N L/N." You replied nervously.
Peter seemed to be skimming the book, flipping through the pages quickly as he mumbled through the names in the book. "..Y/N....Y/N...L/N....OH! Here you are!" Peter acknowledged as he grinned, placing a finger on your name, written in cursive inside the book. Peter met your stare of fear and concern, simply giving you a soft smile in return.
"I'm happy to welcome you into Heaven Y/N! I hope you enjoy your stay in the afterlife." Peter concluded, the pearly whites of the gates catching your eye as it slowly opened. Your fear quickly melted away into awe at the beauty of Heaven. Without a second thought, once you recovered from your astonishment, you walked into Heaven's lands.
The memory of your welcome into Heaven made a small smile form on your lips. Peter was so kind to you when you first arrived. Even Emily, one of the high seraphims was such a joy to be around. She would always try to cheer you up! Especially when you had first arrived. It was so terrifying, having to get used to this new look you had, especially with the wings! You had no idea how to work them, which meant you had to take multiple classes on learning how to fly and properly use your wings, with Emily ending up being the teacher of the classes.
The thought of Emily made your heart ache. Did she even know that you were plummeting toward your demise? Was she the one who tossed you off the edge? No, Emily would never do something so... cruel. Perhaps it was another winner, one who had become jealous of how close you had come to be with Emily and how much you were hanging out with her.
Perhaps you had done too much reading in the libraries that winners were given access to? Though... was that even something that the higher angels would take note of and be upset about? So many thoughts and theories about your current situation ran through your mind that it made you cry out, your head throbbing in pain. Snapping back into the reality of your situation, you could hear the sounds of a... car honking below you? Or perhaps it was the screams of the damned? The answer to that thought wasn't one you would be getting anytime soon. The heat of one of Hell's rings started to become much hotter against your feathery wings and the fragile material your form was made of.
"Oh god, I'm gonna die– I'm gonna die!" You shrieked, time seemingly slowing down like one of those moments in an action film as you plummeted down into Hell's territory. Everything seemed to happen too fast as you collided with a hotel that looked almost run-down, crashing through the roof. The impact made splinters burst from the wood that held it together, that was until the roof collapsed inward.
"OH MY PENTAGRAMS!"
"Qué mierda! Quién es!?"
"Holy shit! This day just keeps getting better and better!"
"This is quite a surprise!"
"I'm too sober for this shit..."
"Is that a new friend!?"
There were multiple voices that you could barely make out as you laid on the carpeted, and actually comfy, flooring of the run down hotel. Your wings had folded awkwardly at the impact of the crash, unable to properly support any of your weight. Some of your feathers had even fallen off, with some others being burned.
A large amount of dust drifted through the air as you laid there on the carpeted flooring, motionless among the wreckage. Every single inch of your body was aching.
Your head throbbed.
Your chest felt tighter.
Bruises that were to show the coming day could be felt spreading across your arms, shoulders, and legs beneath your clothes. Flying debris carved deep into your exposed limbs.
You tried to lift your head, to open your eyes and make sense of your new location, but the pain was too much to bear. The last thing you saw before falling unconscious was a blonde sinner and a tall deer-like one who wore a smile, one that didn't seem to waver as you laid there motionless.
Then... everything went black.
