Like All Days

Shikamaru

Waking up, I let out a groan. I was not in the mood to wake up today- like every other day. I rolled around in bed, trying to see if I could fall back asleep. Right as my eyes began to shut, a sound broke through and my eyes snapped open.

Another groan as I turned to look at the blaring red lights of the bedside table watch, I plopped back to bed, distraught over my disturbed sleep. 7:30, I'm already late, what's the point of going-

"SHIKAMARU NARA! IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR SORRY BUTT DOWN HERE FOR BREAKFAST IN 5 MINUTES, I WILL SERVE YOUR SAID BUTT FOR DINNER!"

Right, there was a point. But then again-

"SHIKAMARU!"

I let out a sigh as I stood up from the bed, the covers falling off my bare chest. Scratching my head, I let out a yawn, which was interrupted by a shiver as a breeze passed by, making contact with my exposed skin. I made my way to the bathroom to bathe myself, mouthing the same words my mom tells me every morning just as she says them.

"BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!"

Entering the bathroom, I felt a familiar throbbing pain arise in my head and I scrunched up my eyebrows as I massaged my temples, trying to lessen the pain to no avail. It's been this way for the past few days and it's only gotten worse. I thought about getting a check up, but that'd take up far too much effort.

After taking a quick yet thorough shower, I caught a glimpse of my reflection as I passed by the mirror. Wet hair down and only a towel around my waist, preventing me from walking around in my birthday suit. I shook my head at the sight, nothing special.

"I do hope Choji keeps his promise"

I muttered to myself as I was standing before my closet, I decided on grabbing my trusty dark green hoodie, slipping it over my uniform as I grabbed my backpack leaning on the bedside table.

Just as I was to head out the door of my room, I realized my bag was feeling awfully light today. Turning back around, I came face to face with the stack of books I had taken out last night.

"I promised to study again, didn't I?"

Grunting, I hurried to heave them all in, zipping my bag closed before slinging the thing over my shoulders and turning the lights off as I exited the room, kicking the door shut too.

"DON'T SLAM DOORS, SHIKAMARU"

Making my way down stairs, I combed my fingers through my hair, trying to get it untangled before I needed to tie it up later.

Entering the kitchen, I gave my mom an obligatory kiss on the cheek, "Okaa-san," and as I approached my dad, he simply raised his hand and I let out another sigh as I ducked down so that he can ruffle my hair, "Oto-san"

Simply grabbing a piece of bread from the table, I stuffed it in my mouth as I grabbed the lunch my mother prepared for me. Placing it in my bag, I made my way out of the house, my parents waving me off with smiles surprisingly on their faces.

Walking down the street, I ruffled my hair once more as I chewed on the slice of bread. Putting my hair up in a pony tail, I began taking a look around as I took the bread away from my mouth to chew properly.

There was the usual sound of people rushing to work and school. The usual sound of cars driving by. I chuckled bitterly to myself as I saw a blonde woman on the opposite street and an all too familiar girl with a lighter shade of blonde entered my thoughts. All too familiar.

Not much people know that I liked my loud mouthed, outgoing best friend. In fact, only Choji knew. And it was Choji who took her away. I shook my head to be rid of the idea, a bitter taste on my tongue.

I didn't blame Choji, you can't stop feelings when they hit you so it isn't his fault. Also, it's not like she's an item of mine to be stolen from. She's her own person and she can like whoever she likes, I have no say on that matter.

Finally arriving at the gates of Konoha High, I let out the nth sigh of this morning as I made my way through. I knew the procedure when you're late far to well, having done this dozens of times before.

"Hey, Zabuza-san"

The man behind the desk simply shook his head before handing me a late slip. Taking a look at it, I smirked as I found that it was all filled out. The guy knew far too well that I'd be late today- just like every other day.

I made my way to the classroom, taking my sweet time as I wasn't quite ready to face the wrath of our first subject teacher- whoever it was. I didn't really bother with memorizing the schedule since it wasn't like I actually listened in class.

Checking the time, I knocked on the back door and walked in, "7:45, Nara. You couldn't have waited to walk in when the bell rang for second sub?"

I shrugged nonchalantly as my classmates snickered, not like they weren't all used to this.

"Sorry, Iruka-sensei, I'll try to be absent next time"

Iruka glared at me and I could only proceed to my seat. I wasn't going to bother giving him the late slip, everybody knew I'd be late anyway so there was no point.

Taking off my bag, I put my hood on and waved at the pink haired classmate in front of me. I then drowned out all the noise in the background as I dozed off.
