I haven't felt this way about school. I never liked school. High school wasn't much different. I only went to see friends, socialize and sleep during class. Wasn't much help saying that my mother was assistant principal and I would get into trouble for skipping class I not doing assignments. I would only hand tasks in for science because that would be my only good subject. Mr White was a good teacher. He was young but not a young cocky type of teacher that other schools have. This is the last month of school which means I had study hall and other study classes so I had a new time table.

I pick up my timetable from home room and slid it into my binder. I wasn't early but I wasn't late. I wouldn't say I was on time either.

Something caught my eye though. There was a boy named Daniel. He was a senior last year, it didn't make sense why he was here. Why he was in my home room still and what happened to him graduating. He was a good kid, straight 'a' student, attended every day.

The bell to first period rang just as I sat down, "there must be an assembly today" I hear Ms McMillan say. As I pick up my bag and shove my binder through the zips, memorizing quickly the next room I went into, I feel a hand in my shoulder.

"Oi! You didn't notice me as I came in?" I spin around, excited to hear who the voice came from.

"Louis!" I screamed in an inside voice. "You fucking scared me you prick" I smirk at him only for him to flash a smirk as his mouth wrinkles at the corners of his half smile.

"Says the prick who didn't even say hi. What do you have next?" he asks as we file out of the room with him hanging through the loop in my top bag.

"Social Studies" I state, "so excited" as roll my eyes.

"Who do you have?" Louis questions only for me to walk past the classroom so I could quickly get books out of my locker.

"Ugh, looks like Mr Hanes" I sigh as I open my locker.

"How would you know you haven't even looked at your table yet" he laughs

"Louis you do realize this is a hallway and I can look in the classrooms. Plus we already walked by it." I state as Louis looks down at his time table.

"Looks like I have Ms Vasquez" he looks up at me with a cheesy grin.
"Has she not retired yet" I say surprised. Ms Vasquez is around 60 years old. She has been working here for 35 years about.

"Obviously not" Louis states the obvious.

The bell goes and Louis side hugs me. "Text me if you want to ditch the period" he winks at me.

"Louis it's our last year in high school. College is next year. I need to at least pass with B's to go to the college I want to go to." Louis looks at me and smiles

"I'm only kidding. I want to go to UCLA next year I need to get my act together also." He walks away and turns left at the end of the hall.

I walk into 20B where Mr Hanes is at his desk in the front. I walk in and sit in the back row on the very right side leaving me near the window.

As everyone files in he takes the attendance. His monotone voice almost puts me to sleep. "Lauren Jauregui" I stop looking out the window to reply with a hand up. As he checks my name I look out the window again only to hear gunshots outside the class.

"This is an emergency lock down. This is not a drill" the intercom says after every ten seconds. "Get to the floor!" Mr Hanes yells. His voice not so monotone but full of fear and body full of adrenaline. He runs to the door only to slam it and lock it. I stand up and close the blinds to the windows where I'm near. I've done these drills many of times and I had a sense of knowing what to do.

The whole class huddles to the 15 foot by 20 foot storage room in the back of the classroom. Room 20A was the class room before it was turned into the storage room. The concrete was covers where the old entrance was making it a 4 wall room and a door. I huddled in there. I found my friend Hayden in the corner. We weren't close but we were friends more than acquaintances. I sit next to him.

"I sense no fear from you Jauregui" he states trembling his lips.

"What do you mean? I'm scared, I'm just somewhat more composed" I reply looking at the door that was closing shut. All there was was darkness and a hint of light that was showing through the crack of the floor and the bottom of the door.

It seemed like hours in the old classroom. I wasn't worried. I was shocked. I couldn't express what was registering through my head at the time. I started thinking about my mother who was assistant principal. I hoped she was okay. Just as I heard the faded intercoms say that it was okay to evacuate the building I stand up brushing my pants.

As I walk out the back doors and into the field I look around. I see Louis sitting on the ground playing with the grass. I walk over to him "I'm so sorry, Lauren" was all he could say when I noticed him in blood. His fingers drenched in red liquid. He looks at me with horror and fear. I look at him confused. "Why are you sorry Louis?"
